Lag spikes / Desync (WinMTR & PingPlotter Provided)

Hi guys,

I know there are thousands of complaints about lag and desync, with most of them being due to PoE servers. However, I believe the lag spikes I'm getting are due to my own system or internet, but I can't quite pinpoint the root problem. Can someone please help?

Here's what the latency (ms) looks like for me:

This is not normal right?

Out of the many desync related posts I've read it looks like most people's latency is normally flat, with the occasional spike of 500+ ms for a second of two. I get those too in addition to what can be seen in the screenshot. That huge spike doesn't bother me so much, it's mainly the smaller peaks which happen every second that do.

In lockstep mode the game pauses for a split second pretty much every second and then speeds up/fast-forwards. Predictive mode feels a little better but had still caused a number of death.

Some details:

- Windows 7 64-bit
- AVG AntiVirus
- 60mb/s wireless internet

I realise a 'wireless' connection raises alarms, but I used to play PoE just fine years ago and sometime after the 2.0 release.

Would really appreciate if someone could help or at least direct me to a similar forum post which I may have missed - apologies if that is the case.

Update:

Connected to the internet through a cable this time, exact same issue with lag spikes every second - 30ms - 130 - 30 - 130 etc. Sometimes the ping is completely stable.. (30 seconds or so) then back again to lag spikes. Have a feeling maybe it's linked to some game settings, steam, pc settings... anyone had this problem and was able to fix it?

I have similar issues as you, but I get DCed a lot of the time too. I can't seem to find a fix for us on the client side, so I imagine it is on their end. One thing I noticed is that I received lag spikes in town whenever people were logging into the server. Maybe their servers are overloaded and basically kicking people off/ having a hard time with all the connections, or their database system is messed up.

However, this happens to me on all gateways, even the Texas gateway which is only 15ms ping for me. I have quality internet with my own modem and router, and I have tried multiple DNS servers, including Google and OpenDNS. I bet GGG is kicking themselves in the ass for doing the networking in TCP instead of UDP or at least a mix...
@MrTanno That sucks man. At least mine doesn't disconnect.

Made a switch from wireless to cable. Here are the results:

Can't tell if it's actually made it worse.. looks like it did :S

Sorry to say, but you won't get a response here unless you ask about a purchase.
