chance orbs and quality

some guy in standard league was using a chance orb on a 20q gavel and people claimed quality on the gavel increased chance of it turning into a unique (mjölner)

i didn't know this and have been searching on the wiki but can't find any mention of this there.

i am suspicious because quality isn't consumed like when using a fuse or a jew. can someone tell me the truth here?

That's one of the oldest urban legends around, it has never been confirmed either directly or indirectly. My pro tip is to do it if it makes you feel better, we're talking about a one-time cost of whole 4 whetstones, after all.

I also advise using 'oh god' in your prayers even if your god does have a name, you never know which one has his turn to listen up there.
