Ground Slam/ Crit Hit Build?

Hi guys,

just come back from about a year break from PoE, I never had a build with my marauder that I was happy with, but I fancy a Ground Slam with crit hit build. Any pointers? most build that have been posted have been reset due to the updates, so a fresh post would be great!! :)

Thanks in advance :)

Unfortunately there aren't very many options when it comes to crit builds on marauders. For ground slam, your best choice is to go staves and grab the nodes that give you free power and endurance charges. I just spent like 15 minutes making this, so I'm sure there are slight inefficiencies, but I would recommend a tree like this.

If you do follow a build like this just make sure you are getting most of your life first. Staves have really high base damage, so they don't need many damage nodes through normal and cruel difficulties. It's probably best to go for the duelist start area first, then work your way up to the power and endurance charges as you reach higher levels. Power charges don't help you much when you have very little crit and crit multi anyway.

making an accuracy dependant str build is not a good idea imo. hard to get enough accuracy is one of the problems. dex charachters get a lot of accuracy simply by traveling and picking up dex nodes along the way. also low crit chance. long distance to pick up crit nodes. all are on the other side of the tree.

my opinion.

You don't have to stay on the left side just because you are a marauder.

Just one example, click me for a critical sword tree.

You're going to have a lot of travelling cost (those "+10 attribute" points) no matter what, even if you stay on the left side.

But without crit, your damage output is limited.
With crit, it is not.

And accuracy is a non-issue. Just pick up 1-2 items with 300-400 flat accuracy, like:

Coupled with some +% acc nodes you'll even find on the left side, your chance to hit will stay above 90%, which is more than enough.

@OP
Go for a staff or a sceptre.
For a staff, it's a bit easier to build a tree (as the staff notables are all pretty close at templar), but it may be more expensive to gear. Hegemony's Staff is a great unique crit staff, but also very expensive.
Maybe use a cheaper rare like:

You'll probably get one for ~2-3 Ex.

For sceptre, just buy a Doryani's Catalyst (~1 Ex) and you're set:

You'll need a more wide-spread tree however (you won't find mace+crit in one area).

yes but you have to agree it's far from optimal. you might as well have started as a shadow, scion or ranger.

most people tend to want to use rat's nest or maligaro's gloves eventually so there goes one of the accuracy sources too.
The OP wants to play a marauder, not a shadow, scion or ranger.
Who cares if their positions in the tree are more optimal?

He also wants to play Ground Slam, which requires a mace, sceptre or staff, a red weapon with notables on the left side of the tree.

Now try to optimize within these limits.
"Play a shadow" is not helpful at all.

I'm pretty sure one can build a crit groundslam char able to clear all map levels.
I'd go for something like this:

Click me for 110 points
160% life
Phase Acro (best defense for twohanded builds)
~500% crit chance
All the damage, accuracy and attack speed I could find.

...and items like:

(That's probably capped resists even with the uniques, if not, swap 1-2 items around)

Gems:
Ground Slam
+ 5 out of Melee Phys, multistrike, critical damage, critical strikes (if needed), physical to lightning, conc effect/inc AoE, faster attacks

RM+Hatred+HoA+prolif
2 Cwdt setups
Leap Slam

You could also go with a crit main hand dual wield build, with a mace in the main hand, which you will use for Ground Slam and Heavy Strike/Glacial Hammer as a single target and in your offhand you can have an Ungil's Gauche for some block + crit or a Prismatic Eclipse for attack speed or even a Soul Taker to bypass the mana cost of Ground Slam.

Mathil did a small guide about his setup : http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1192603

Or if you want something more tanky, I'm currently planning to go for this in the 1M HC :
http://poeurl.com/zm7kAeG
Using an Alpha's Howl to run Hatred + Grace + HoA + HoI and Lightning Coil + Iron Reflexes for very high physical mitigation, combined with high damage output to freeze, shock and stun most of the mobs i the game.
I'm playing a Crit Staff GS/HS Mara right now.
My passive tree is this https://poebuilder.com/character/AAAAAgEAxth7jD38WGOMz-8OFCBfP_ZI5FFQRzkOCZaXeXfjrj5nm6IA8B9o8q9sTP88LQSzwGbvfJ_fcqnE9phv3COSffcy5c_JZ0FyvJrtRFnzrKqnpblDkwfVi0oukFUaOMAaJy_jahZv-tJmnjQxWK5epRNxj0YdFPuLeA0LYXlowQQIsT_86Ga9Nkd-hNkB3L6KvqdlTYdqqZSpJ3h6BS1673TthO9hIScgiiIs-yFVXhNgS8CmB3XcPc9-dqzqGK2NNukkqmvZ

With 400ish accuracy on gear I'm at 87% chance to hit.I bought Hegemony's Era but that's a luxury. My weapon was this

before that.I use Hatred + HoA.Pretty great build imo.
And you can buy some very decent staves with a few chaoses or pm me for a couple that
I have in my stash.
