Recent Graphics Problems
I started playing PoE in September, where the game ran fine and there were no problems. However I stopped for a while and just started back up. Now the game is almost unplayable with graphics explosions and breakage. I have searched for solutions within this forum and the common problems section. The general solution says that it is because the Graphics Card is overheating. I'm playing on a laptop which was the same computer as before. However, my laptop can play games as intense as Skyrim. PoE is the only one to have graphical issues. My graphics card is fully updated and I have turned down every graphical option within PoE to the lowest that it can go. I have also ensured that vsync is on. Being on a laptop makes it a bit difficult to ensure the proper cooling of the graphics card. Do you guys have any specific help that could allow me to actually play this game consistently? Thanks.

Your assumption of the game not being graphically intense is an incorrect one. PoE is VERY graphically intense. Not only that, but it is intense for a good portion of your machine hardware (CPU, RAM, HDD, etc). In addition to that, it appears you're using an integrated card. Do you have a dedicated card?
Also, you should always put large amounts of copy/paste text inside a spoiler tag to keep the thread clean. Large amounts of visible text can cause issues for some mobile browsers.
Thanks for the quick reply. I tried using a spoiler tag on steam once and it still had the text space but it was just square blocks so I thought it might be the same. It's fixed now.
I can understand that PoE has some graphically intense parts, having to render all of the attacks, particle affects and the like it just seems it would be handled differently than just flat out dying. And it is usually not in those heavy battles. Sometimes i'm sitting in town and it'll go on the fritz. Mostly I'm just confused as to why it was fine in september and not any more. I am using an integrated card which I'm sure is part of my problem. But is there anything I can do about it besides building a new computer ;) Last edited by kolipoki on Apr 30, 2015, 11:58:24 PM

Use something like HWMonitor to check temperatures, and make sure your video drivers are as up to date as possible.
Also might need to tweak quality settings and other things for better performance... use a lower resolution, etc.
As I said in the original, my driver is up to date and everything is set to the lowest. I have used the HWMonitor but don't have any comparisons. It looks like they are about 50C at the moment. Which seems a little high.
| |
50C isn't horrible. What does it get up to when you start experiencing issues?
Also, have you checked the drivers from the manufacturer, or just from Windows Update? A lot of people assume Windows Update is the newest there is which isn't always the case... which is why I double check.
I've been using the Intel updater which Intel requires now for their driver updating. I was playing it shortly before writing this so I assume about the same temp. I'll have to check next time it happens.

I 've had the same problems , it all started after installing the latest update of poe
before that I was on a Wonder And that dep problems with the driver if some happens to us. and I think that last patch sends some computer errors . I'm trying to install the game denuevo as will aver |
|
So having just turned on my computer my temps were reading about 45. After starting PoE they jumped into the 50's and 60's and it spikes up to 70 about the time there is a graphic crash.
