Energy Shield Recharge in general needs a rework.
I watched 2 videos about the new EB by Invalesco and ZiggyD.
Invalesco http://youtu.be/FN5UI3irSAo TLDW: Even with heavy investment in "Faster Start" mods, it's still sub par because you still have to stop and wait. ZiggyD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e57zMcioEnw TLDW: Works great with Zealot's Oath. This is just a reminder of how Energy Shield Recharge and Energy Shield as a defense is just sub par in general. In it's most basic form, Energy Shield protects your life pool (Hybrid Builds). The problem with that is when it's gone (unless you run away and wait) you are a sitting duck with a small life pool because you spent points on ES nodes rather that more Life nodes. Ghost Reaver can help with this but your Leech Rate will only be 20% of your ES per second. That will be about half the rate depending on your life to ES ratio. The same go's for Zealot's Oath because you are only regening a % of your ES. With CI you can drop the life nodes and invest more into ES nodes, but the same problem persists where you have to stop fighting and run away to recover ES. Ghost Reaver helps but you are still left at the mercy of your Leech Rate as opposed to popping a few instant potions. Zealot's Oath just gives what life already has but for a point investment. CI was pretty OP in the past but has since been nerfed too hard IMO. This may change with the new frenzy charges but who knows. My suggestion for Energy Shield Recharge is instead of a wait then a rapid recovery it could have an instant slow recovery that gradually turns into a fast recovery. "Faster Start" mods could be changed to "Faster Recovery" mods. Zealot's Oath would still be useful because it still adds to overall regen. Vaal Discipline could just activate max recovery rate like it already dose. That's my 2¢. Thanks and good luck with 2.0! Berek's Grip Ice Spear

I don't consider invalesco's build all that bad to be honest.
Considering hes not even using the unique quiver that adds 150% ES recharge rate, this seems completely viable in that case. Specially for a ranged character. I think the new EB will do just fine once fully explored. Maybe it could have an implicit 20% faster ES recharge rate (more faster if that makes sense?) on the key-node itself, but the problem then becomes that nobody would utilize mana anymore and it would undermine this key-stone for the future again. I think it's at a solid investment vs efficiency ratio currently. Some people will like it and make builds for it, other's will not and use mana. Doesn't +200% recharge already bring down the cooldown to 1.5 seconds?

" It is 6 seconds divided by your recharge multiplier. To get it to 1,5s you need 300% increased recovery (6 / (1 + 3)).
" I was talking about the viability of the EB mechanic in his build. Not talking about dps/efficiency/gear here. I thought that was obvious. He's just sacrificing EHP to test mechanics...which is normal for somebody in beta having a lulz? Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" Oh yah, a totally GGG solution to a self-inflicted problem: fix the bad mechanics with an OP Unique designed for a cookie-cutter build.
" Or you know, go without the quiver, pool 5 packs of mobs and kill them with your ES making the actual down-time between packs over 2 seconds. You know, play-style things, PoE things or whatever you like to call it. Adapt or perish. Simple. Expecting the same outcome with a different mechanic is retarded. So expecting the same play-style is equally stupid. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" So how stupid is it to "fix" something that's not broken and no one complained about with a half-assed gimmick that no one wants and breaks all the builds?
" And who is to say it isn't broken? It's GGG's game and they think it's broken. And it actually is. EB+mom/CoD+AA is op defenses for little investment. Any half decent build crafter utilizing the above combination can confirm it. |
