Connection Issues
I've been having some connection issues. I downloaded the game outside of steam and it gets stuck when loading a new zone and sometimes when loading the first zone. It does not crash however, it just stalls indefinitely on the loading screens.
After searching through the forums and not finding specific answers, I decided to try installing it through steam. When launched through steam it just gets stuck on "connecting to server," and never makes it past that. Since both versions were not working I downloaded WinMTR and tried running that to confirm connections. After attempting the Trace Route for both American and EU servers I tried google.com to make sure WinMTR was working and it is. Below I posted the client data from Steam and from the Standalone. The steam client.txt doesn't seem to show much. Probably because the game never fully launched, it just got to the log in screen.

Looks like something in your network is blocking your connection.
What type of connection are you on? Is it a managed network, or a residential connection? Are you running as admin by right-clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator"? Have to disabled all antivirus/firewall/security software and/or hardware that could be interfering? Have you tried playing while connected to a VPN to see if changing the network routing could fix the problem? | |
That was my first thought too Drakier.
In order: School Campus internet, so probably a managed network (could ultimately be the only problem). Running the standalone as admin had the exact same result. He has run it with all security software disabled. Have not tried running it through a VPN but that is a possibility. However, I think if the ultimate problem is the managed network blocking those ports, and a VPN still won't fix his issue. |

School networks are managed, and most likely the issue.
Sometimes a VPN will help though as it isn't strictly "port-based". Also, most VPNs establish a tunnel which the ports are routed through. So a VPN is likely to help with the problem... however it's not a great long-term solution for a managed network. Best bet would be to get in contact with the network administrators to get it opened up slightly for PoE to work. |
