" Can't really agree more. Except I think good music is still being made, but it's certainly niche stuff that you need some work to find out about. 60s and especially 70s were the golden age of music. I can't describe the feeling I get from thinking that stuff like Beatles and Pink Floyd used to be the standard for radio play. Comparing that to what's played today is similar insult to comparing Path of Exile to most of the shit that gets released these days. | |

There is always good music being made. Difference today is the ability to find that music.
Growing up it was the radio and the record store. If you didn't hear on the radio, you probably didn't risk your money in the store. While I have my preference, I have used the internet to explore music of many genres. Funk, big band, swing, even some gospel. But on another note, some that I consider great also became weak or worse as they aged. Genesis maybe the best example, but there are others. Early Van Halen was a pleasure, later works felt like they sold out to make money more than music. I would try to explain my point better, but I am currently traveling by car. (Just hit Virginia) |

Think about how much better it is now Moon. There was a time in my youth I'd literally watch MTV just on the random chance I could see a video of ma band I liked. I'd seriously watch it for hours just to see one thing that never came.
Now YouTube, Forums, wiki, streaming sites, eRetail suggestions - what we can find is staggering. Shit even some songs that only existed in small market jukes on 45s are now accessible on the net. I used to shop record stores in New Orleans...many 45s costs 100s of dollars 20 years ago...now I can just find 'em for the kind souls who uploaded them. Beautiful shit man. |

I was there in the old days. Its Grandfather Moon now. And yes, the new meta is light years better.

" Of course there is good music being made today. It was just that in the 60's and the 70's there was MORE good, evolutionary music being made all around. And not just by the famous acts, like zeppelin or floyd, but even the more obscure ones. This has nothing to do with the talen of musicians(or listeners). It had to do with the state of society back in those days. America for better or worse is the center of the world, and during that time it was going through social changes, due to the Vietnam war, and the equal rights campaigns and everything. Thus both artists and listeners were on a more "creative", and experimental state. Back then, people were open and ready to embrace acts like King Crimson, or the Mahavishnu Orchestra, while similar music today will most definetely be ignored. Even Zeppelin, being the most commercially successful band of the '70s, was not bothered with commercialism, not releasing singles(as they did not need them), and were writing obscure 8+min long songs like Kashmir. It had far more to do with the state of society overall, rather than the talent of musicians. Same with the 80's and the reagan era. You can definetely trace the good the and bad of it(mostly bad) on all art forms. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/417287 - Poutsos Flicker Nuke Shadow

" FYI: Led Zeppelin could be considered niche compared to Fleetwood Mac, the Bee Gees, Pink Floyd and the Eagles. Last edited by FireWalkWithMe on Apr 26, 2015, 12:26:03 PM
