How come a lot of ES builds get barely any ES nodes?

because es nodes give more % than equal hp nodes, so you need less to get equal es pool.
its easy to get 200%+ es out of the tree, even 300% is possible when u focus on es, but its not needed for most builds. | |

Why bother asking this now when act 4 will probably change everything anyways. The question and answer might then be completely different.

There are still a few weeks left before that happens, and lot of characters can still be leveled up in that time.

Expanding on earlier replies regarding ES. Basically it's not too hard to reach 5-6000 ES taking almost noe of the 6% nodes at all. At that point, sure, you could take more, but in my case that would mean sacrificing up to 48% in resist nodes or not having enough nodes to reduce mana reservation. By that point more ES just isn't the most effective answer.

" ES can come in large quantity from good items... I have shields that give 498es, chests that give 510 helmet that gives 501 or something you get the idea. The real hardcore PoE players and the elites sit in town and zoning in and out of their hideouts trading items. Noobs that don't know how to play PoE correctly, kill monsters for items. It's pure fact, it will never change.

People are forgetting that
Every 10 intelligence grants 2% increased maximum energy shield. Alot of extra ES for free since you usually get a ton of int nodes anyway. (average build is 300?)
