SSF torment journey (warning, WOT inside)

5.Mapping

As expected, mapping was extremely easy this time around and cannot compare to the mapping famine that was OB. People who complained about sustaining maps either have ADD or cant deal with RNG.
As usual, pre-77 strategy was chisel (73+), transmute and alt to magic/pack size. Id throw a regal on 75 occasionaly.
77+ is chisel + alch/chaos to magic/pack/high quantity

What they did right: um, not much to me
Suggested Improvements: There needs to be a system to reduce a power creep, and it NEEDS to start with map availability. You're not supposed to sustain 77+ maps. As is, we went from one end of spectrum to another.
Future Outlook: I think GGG tries to softly change the maps to be obtainable in harder way. Of course I expect usual suspects start to whine about map sustainablity.

<rage>

well i'd certainly like to feel how fking easy it is to sustain 77-78s now. But yeah, maybe rolling pack size/more magic + 70-80q and adding ambush/domination (that's what I did when I was playing bloodlines after I went down to 10 78s from 30) is not yet enough to get a single 77-78 map drop?
Call it bad rng or w/e you want but I don't believe in this bs anymore and I'm not the first person to have this kind of problem. Oh, did I mention that I have had to grind 70-71s (with the shittiest rolls possible just to get high quantity) up to 89 lvl on bloodlines? fun times

</rage>

sorry, I get mad everytime I see someone saying how easy to sustain are maps now. I guess I should've quit this game already as after so much time played everything including surviving on hc became pure gamble for me

ok, now the other things I disagree with

"
In fact, I'd say masters besides Zana take too little time leveling to 8

I see no reason they should take more time, it is fine imo as-is right now (talking about solo ofc). This game is all about temp leagues, not standard. I also disagree with what you wrote about zana

"
I would also go with back to only rock breakers being used for chisel recipe, because its waay to easy to never run out of chisels, and subsequently, get better map drops

It was changed for a reason, and the reason was that no one was doing this recipe. Reverting it would make this recipe useless yet again

meh, I think I agree with everything else

first, disclaimer- it was a SC league. HC is a bit of a different animal where you cant afford at all to do mods you know you can have problems with.

still, compared to OB when I would spend a lot of currency and couldnt sustain a pool solo past like 73 in standard even when grinding all the low level maps, its a huge change.

like Ive said, Ive gotten plenty of 77 (and to lesser degree 78) drops. now I didnt RUN a ton (and a ton to me = 30+) of 77/78 maps because I got bored with this toon towards the end (and I was running no 77s/78s until like 87 and my toon is 90), but I certainly wouldnt ever fall back below 76 at least. zana daily+zana in the wild+cartos are amazing sources of maps

most people on here disagree with me on this though. but again, there would be no way a solo self found player could sustain 76+ in open beta. just, no way. getting 30 77 maps meant getting 60ex - for that time, a nice sum of currency. the fact that back then people exalted their maps and now I can slap a transmute and alt on a shrine and run it without worrying to much, is telling, how much easier top map sustainability came to be.

and to me, the top content should be rare and very hard to get
I also played in ob, I know that it was almost impossible to sustain higher maps, they were like 3x smaller than now and it was "find party or gtfo" game back then.

Making higher maps privilege again looks good on a paper but in reality 90% of the playerbase would get only upset and sick of endless low lvl map grind after few weeks. There was a reason maps were changed. I really like the map system but it was utter shit back in beta. It's still not perfect but far better than it was 2 years ago.

7. RNG

RNG is RNG

I've gotten around 10 cartos in maps by comparison.

I need a signature to look legit

is around 10 a lot in 100+ hours of play ?
Ive never gotten a cartos in a map over 74 over the entire course of torment and besides one 74 box, the rest were like 69-72.

I did get a lot of sac fragments by corrupting the boxes and playing those corrupted maps.

I got way more high maps via zana dailies, and wild zana. but yeah, they can nerf the cartos as well, they are too powerful

Yes it indeed is a lot.

I have seen around 10 total cartographers since they were introduced in game. Only once in high(ish) level map where RNG finally DID bless me with maplosion of massive goodness, that happened last week so I had it coming.

Mapping SSF is a strange beast, took 2 fucking MONTHS to break over level 69 maps in Rampage and I have since abandonded playing temp leagues all together. In last few weeks of playing standard I have had no problem building my map pool...until yesterday when map drops suddenly vanished again.

RNG is RNG, that is all, no way of rolling those maps have made any real difference what so ever.

Btw if you want to know what is most frustrating thing possible in this game it is alch&chiseling under level 70 maps for weeks :)

thats pretty crazy nowadays, man.

at the end of the league I had so many low level map drops I couldnt even vendor them for chisels because Id run out of gavels/hammers

I ended up running some of easy layout ones (undeground sea, promenade, etc) at the end to try and get that last ghost challenge (yes, I admit I got tempted enough about the 'challenge' seeing that totem grow) but I didnt think it can be like that (cant get past 69s/70s)
