What's with the time sink motive?

Someone posted a lot of great ui suggestions here and this image really got me wondering:
(scroll the image to the right end to see it)

Spoiler

What is the purpose of making us go outside the game
and look up for the high/low rolls for item lvl/mods?
Why can't we just see items like this instantly in the game?

We can see gear ilvl by linking them into chat and holding alt down,
or picking them up and typing /itemlevel (which is a pointless time sink as well,
why can't we see ilvl by just toggling alt over items in our bag??).

I'd like a legit answer, from a Dev and nothing less to make things clear:

How does this hiding of the most wanted info on items improve the gameplay in any way?

It's doing nothing but wasting everyones time.
You are only forcing us to go outside of the game and look the mods up,
checking on our own how good a item we got.

What... why??

You lost the forum game, as a result, you get a post from ME.

I think chris likes pizza, buy him some, maybe he will respond if you bribe him?

Well, since you took some time to reply, why don't you drop your opinion?

Would you like this kind of feature or not, and why do you think the devs haven't made it yet?
You know they obviously have thought of it, but willingly chosen not to do it.

To be completely honest, I'm pretty pissed at this.
It's absolute bullshit to even suggest it would improve the game in any way to keep the majority in the dark. Is this supposed to be a perk for hardcore players who, after having seen millions of rares, know the high/low roll possibilities, and can therefor price a item with their own accuracy, leaving casual players who don't even know how to read the prefix/suffix wiki pages, in the dark, open to scam trades:

"Those rolls are medium, I give you 2c" then selling it for 4c ?

Or do they really just want to slow us down so we won't reach lvl 100 too soon and get bored?
Why can't you just show us what we want and need to see? Gah...!

Make a poll...
Every normal, sane person would want this feature.

Guess what was before this?
Monster life bars, we didn't have them.
Players thought it was retarded, fights were a mess.
Now we got lifebars.

This is the next thing we will get. Just need more voice and support from the community!
Come on guys, let GGG hear that you want this kind of change in item displays!

I'd like this as a hotkey. Like standard item mouseover is without bars, then I press a button and the bars appear. Because let's face it, 99.9% of the time I'm not interested in the bars because I can see at one glance that the item is vendor trash. It just clutters the screen for no reason.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Yes, indeed... optional function would be best.
Toggle tooltip.

Even those who wouldn't want this feature have nothing to say against it being optional.
If they don't like it, nobody is forcing them to use it.

I think only profit flipping players would be against this,
because they couldn't scam others no more by telling them if a item has good or bad rolls.

You know what the G's in GGG stand for?

Chris kind of answered this today though:

Will there be a POE-o-pedia in game with definitions and knowledge?

Probably not in-game, but the PoE wiki is really well maintained and has a lot of information.

Suggestions still being posted in GD. Some things never change. *sigh*

And showing this that way makes the game look ugly and you know the stats anyways so what more info do you need? Check the wiki, roll stats, win the game. Why do some people need everything handed on a platinum platter?
There is a wonderful autohotkey script that does this for you. It's posted here in this forum. I think its called PoE iteminfo. I hit crtl+p and see everything I need.
