Need Help I feel weak

Hey guys, I just started playing again last weekend. Last time I played was 1 year ago. I looked at the mara and thought Fire damage was the way to go now. Well I made it to merciless without dieing and DPS and survive was Okish. Now I died a lot and I feel weak. I don't know what to do. Please help suggest gems gears to use with my tree. Give me so ideas of how I can be a beast cuz right now I don't feel very beastly.
