FPS issues since patch 1.3

I posted in someone else's thread before realising you like a fresh thread for each new problem.
Since the last patch I've been getting FPS issues. I have an old computer, so my normal FPS isn't amazing but the game was perfectly playable before. I'd get occasional issues before but the FPS drops seemed to be instance specific - I could return to town, and the FPS would return to normal, and the problem would be fixed when I went back the zone I was playing. Now the game starts off okay, but it inevitably at some point, the FPS will go into a death spiral from which it never recovers: About 5-7 FPS on a screen with no monsters or skill effects (just the environment effects) to essentially zero if there are a lot of monsters and effects on screen. I've updated my drivers and reduced all the graphics settings as low as they can possibly go to no avail. I also note a distinct crackle in the sound when the FPS issues kick in. It's somewhat difficult to keep characters alive at 1 FPS or less, so I'm not all that keep to play the game at the moment. DxDiag report:

435M? I am assuming that you've got a laptop?
Have you tried running it without sound enabled to see if the problems persist? Do you have a GPU/CPU temperature monitor, what kind of temperatures are they hitting when you have your problems? The CPU/GPU shouldn't be too much of an issue, you've got enough RAM (depending what kind of stuff you have in the background of course), and if you've lowered the settings then I would probably suspect you've got heat problems. Get hold of MSI Afterburner/RIVA Tuner, and run the game for a while with the temp monitors on. If you're hitting 90+ and spiking over 100 then you've got a problem. Further update: The --nosound flag seems to help a bit. The frame rate still drops pretty low in busy moments, but returns to a usable level after the fight is over.
The temperature monitor seems to suggest overheating could be the issue: The GPU temp seems to be sitting in the 90s even when I'm doing nothing more exciting than standing in town, and its hitting peaks of 100-101. The CPU cores seem to be running pretty warm as well. |

That's bad news :(
You'll want to take some steps to mitigate those temps or you could end up with degraded thermal paste, dramatic shortening of your GPU lifespan and performance, burnt nads from hot casing... I recommend blowing your fans (not like that, using compressed air), and having the inside of the machine cleared of dust/fur etc. (you can do this yourself if confident, but be very careful). Further options include manual fan control (SpeedFan or RWEverything etc.), lowering textures to Runescape mode, locking your framerate etc. Sorry to be a downer dude, but I had the exact same issues with my old Acer laptop. == Officially Retired 27/02/2019 ==

I want to let you know that PoE is not optimized very well considering the way it looks and it's performance. The solution is to make your machine faster or to use other hardware, GGG is working on optimization continuously but I would not wait for it.
