What about SANE “Set mechanics”?

I still stand by my original point: there's no reason anyone going life would want anything other than "set mod life," no reason anyone going mana for Arctic Armour would want anything other than "set mod mana," no reason anyone going spell critical chance would want anything but "set mod spell critical chance." In all honesty, the way sets normally work in games like D2 and D3 has a better chance of balance than this stuff.

Still a horrible idea. Still -1.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
How about any item drops with a random "alignment" possible biased towards their stat-class.
If you happen to use more items with the same alignment you are granted a bonus.

This could also make ways for new uniques mods: "Boost/removes/converts alignment x bonus". "% chance to get x charge per item with alignment y".

I've already wrote about. There's too hard to get good items with needed set mod at hi-level, and even then you don't get OP numbers.
Suggestions I support:

Brand new, without flaws, set mechanic: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/117837
