WHY?
Spoiler
This is a rags to riches build. Simply follow my guide at the start of any new challenge league (preferably Hardcore because stuffs way cheaper and many people die needing more items), and you will easily be able to do end game content without breaking the bank, dieing, and make a ton of loot in the process! What I did was utilize (what I believe to be) the best game mechanics to our advantage. This build is so good I almost did not want to share it with you all (and there are copies of my build popping up just look at the thread creation date). Every exceptional item can easily be traded for loot that you find in the challenge league just use my loot filter and follow my guide step by step. You can also be duelist but ranger looks best w/ claws imo. Your also a badass cuz U tank merciless Haaste Unrelenting Frost, ect. while everyone else in your party runs like a bitch / rip's.

I used this build in the Flashback Hardcore league and was able to tank practically everything while mapping with ALL MODS with mostly self-found gear.

So what mechanics do we utilize and why?

Multiple Auras
Multiple Auras are what we use to do damage instead of relying on our weapon. They allows us to do plenty of damage through the game without having to worry too much about upgrading weapons.

Acrobatics & Phase Acrobatics
It's like holding a shield without holding a shield. For a few passive points you get 40% Chance to dodge attacks and 30% chance to Dodge Spells. What I believe to be the most powerful cluster in the passive tree.

Shield
I now recommend a shield due to the physical dmg boost mobs received.

Life on Hit
Life on hit from claws no longer double dips :( but we still get plenty of leech. So... w/ 30 life on hit. 2 Hits. 10 Attacks Per Second. 600 Life leech per second for a single enemy.

Molten Strike
This skill was made for life on hit and elemental. Every molten ball is AOE and can hit multiple enemies. Throw in Point blank and now each ball does 60% of weapon damage and can hit multiple enemies without any support gems! It may take a second to hit the ground but it's damage is unsurpassed. Tooltip damage should be doubled for the balls damage. Again, a single ball can hit 4 enemies!

Curses
I changes this to now only use a single curse. We evade a lot more enemies and don't get hit as much. Now we kill many enemies before we even curse them, so dual curses is no longer recommended.

Elemental Scaling
The trick to effective scaling is to have an equal amount of *MORE damage and *INCREASED damage. The more out of balance this becomes, the less effective those mods become. Our damage is very effective without pumping all our points into damage passive points because getting over 100% weapon elemental damage is easily obtainable from Amulet 30%, Ring 30%, Belt 30%, Weapon 1: 20%, Weapon 2: 20%, total: +130% ele dmg. As you can see, no elemental passive are even needed because gear allows over 100% increased elemental damage which is already over the "more" multiplier thus becoming less effective.

Damage Reduction
I overlap multiple forms of % damage reduction because I play hardcore and I don't fancy death. We utilize Fortify, Enfeeble, Arctic Armour, and Endurance Charges. All of these overlap and you will take survivable damage without having to worry about armor and evasion mods, it's given and cast automatically through your skill gems which means more time to be spent attacking.
*We must now self-cast enduring cry.

HP
We spec alot into hp, and if you get jewels, I highly recommend hp. I don't care how much evasion or blind you have, eventually you get hit and with Moore's Law, it will be the hit that can kill you. The solution, enough HP to tank most of the attacks in the game. Can anyone actually survive the merciless Malachai Slam. I'm not about to try, if your softcore go for it.

PASSIVE TREE
Spoiler

Take note that many re-spec points will be used during the duration of this build so don't forget to do the re-stat quests. You can skip those points if you want to risk having no passive resists for some time. This guide is based off starting from scratch in a new league.

GEM SETUP lvls 1-85
Spoiler

*In 2.0 you can now purchase gems from vendors. A problem with this though is, as you level, the vendor gems also level so you need to purchase all the gems you will need at level 1 before you progress to the next Act. I made the mistake of buying these gems too late and am stuck with higher Cast when Damage Taken setups. I will list the Required gems and Acts here:

PURCHASE THESE GEMS BEFORE PROGRESSING TO FINAL BOSS OF THAT ACT
A1: None
A2: Blood Rage
A3: Enfeeble x2 : Your going to have to trade for these
A4: Cast When Damage Taken x3, Phase Run

GEMS THAT I ENDED UP PURCHASING TO MAKE PROGRESSION EASIER
A1: Riposte
A2: Herald of Thunder, Enduring Cry, Blood Rage, Arctic Armour, Weapon Elemental Damage
A3: Enfeeble x2, Wrath, Blood Magic x3, Fortify, Innervate
A4: Cast When Damage Taken x3, Phase Run, Multistrike

GEAR
Spoiler

Normal Gear:
Just use whatever 4L items you can find and transmute/alt minimum +20hp to each item. Utilize whatever gems that drop until A4 Normal where you will setup your char for the 1st time.

Cruel Gear: - I used mostly this gear from A3 Norm to A4 Cruel. will be upgrading before progression to Koam and Duresso
Spoiler

Merciless Gear: - At lvl 64 I swapped over to Merciless Gear. You should be able to progress all the way through Merciless w/ this gear. Here's the stats:
HP: 3,582
Resists: 120,180,135,0
Tooltip DPS w/ Fire Golem Wrath, HoT: 7,994
Tooltip DPS w/ Frenzy Charges: 9,958
Estimated DPS w/ Balls: 17k.
Not bad for lvl 64.

Here's what I respecced to:
Spoiler

Armor: 5 chaos for 5 link - 60 alts to craft - 1 Regal - 2 Alchs
Helm: 5 Chaos: I fuked up here I should have went tri-res.
Gloves: Self found est: 3 Chaos
Boots: Self Found Est: 3 Chaos
Belt: 6 chaos
Weapon 1: 6 Chaos
Weapon 2: 5 Chaos
Amulet: 5 Chaos
Ring1: 5 Chaos
Ring2: 12 Chaos

Total Price: ~64 Chaos. You can get stuff cheap but I used everything I can to get the best I can afford. I tried to stick to 5 chaos per piece but some more expensive items I could not pass up like the chest and that expensive ring.
With this gear while lvl 64 & fire golem + wrath + HoT: I have:
HP: 3582
Tooltip DPS: 7,994
Resists: 120,180,135

How I go about regearing my char is I search poe.xyz for a few stats mainly hp + another stat.
I check each item to see what I can master craft to it.
I buy up all the gear I can w/ available currency.
I then master craft what I can to each piece filling the voids.

The next time we re-gear should be around lvl 80-85 for endgame depending on what you find. I will find a tri-res Helm and I have boots I found but working on socket colors.

Legacy Gear
Spoiler
I'll first list my current gear, then go through what you want to look for in gear.
Here is an indication on how cheap the gear is for this build:
Helm self found est. 5 chaos.
Armor self found white and crafted est. 10 chaos.
Gloves purchased 3 chaos.
Boots self found est 3 chaos.
Belt self found est 2 chaos.
Weapon 1 purchased - 3 chaos
Weapon 2 purchased - 5 chaos
Amulet self found - 3 chaos
Ring self found - 2 chaos
Ring purchased - 1 chaos
As you can see only 37 chaos in price. Many prices were estimated high as well. It appears you may have to craft your own claws since the populatity of this build and the already rarity of clas. NO fear though! Dmg is not needed on claws and I will add vids if I ever get time and a lvl 8 Master.

*Statwise HP is what you need on everything. Since you are melee you need a high hp pool to prevent getting 1-shot be hard hitters such as Vaal and Dom. Capping ele resists are the second priority. After that, your damage mods will be important such as additional weapon elemental damage and speed. Armor is needed least because of both acrobatics and the cast when damage taken setup.

GETTING STARTED
Spoiler

A1 Norm
1.) Create a Marauder and grab Molten Strike.
2.) Create A Shadow and get Firetrap
3.) Pocket those wisdoms and flasks and vendor anything from a chest for more scrolls.
4.) Buy a couple coral rings
5.) Create your Ranger and start owning.

Through A1 your just going to be using any blue item you ID. I don't ID rares / blues unless they are a weapon until lvl 10. I kept a fire trap on me as well for additional burning dmg and is useful when you need a weapon upgrade.

KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED FOR:
Amulets with Intel to run aura's and use claws.

Belt W/ Strength to use Molten Strike.

Buy or find 2 Cold res rings from vendor for Merveil.

I keep 2 of every flat resist ring and corals in my inventory while I lvl until all resists are maxed. I swap them in and out as needed so all bosses are easily facetanked using this method.

Facetank Merveil. Don't forget to swap in 1 or 2 cold res rings.

A2 Norm
*From A2 on keep your eyes peeled for All Stat and Str + Intel Amulets w/ hp

*Keep your eyes peeled for any 4 link str, str/dex, or str/intel items to add hp into.

*Add 2 rings of each resist to your inventory, and constantly upgrade them as you find better.

*Run through A2 iding weapons as you find them.

*I go straight for the Cave and get a Rustic Belt.

*If you've found an alch orb and you need a weapon badly, alch a rustic sash, then craft a weapon that way. I recommend waiting until A3 before crafting anything.

*Chameber of Sins - Swap Lightning Rings as Needed and facetank the boss.

*Weaver - swap in HP Rings and Facetank the boss.

*Alira - Swap in Fire Res and Facetank her. Target only her and kill minions later.

*Kratyn - Swap in HP rings and Kill.

*Oak - Help for HP

*Vaal - Swap in Fire and Light Resists and Facetank. If you don't have 600 HP I would be weary about his Fist. It is easily dodged but if you are new and can't dodge his fist, max your fire res and then you can tank it. Run Circles against Lightning.

A3 Norm

*I don't farm at all I just quest straight through

*Crematorium - Swap in Light Res and Kill Piety

*Sewers - Hp Rings and own.

*Docks - Swap Fire Res rings.

*General - Swap in Ruby rings and facetank

*Piety - Swap in 1 lightning and 1 cold res ring. Facetank

*Library Quest: Grab Fortify Support Gem

*Dom - Swap HP rings and try to beat enemies 1 by one depending on your gear you can prolly facetank all 3 at once. When dom comes out, swap in lightning res rings and facetank him. In his 2nd form swap HP rings and facetank

A4 Norm:
Dried Lake: Kill Voll Grab Banner, unlock mines, grab fire golem as reward.

Keep your eyes peeled for 4 link strength items. We will be linking up many gems now. Buy Blood Magic from A3 vendor. Trade for an enfeeble.

Mines:
Navigate through mines and get wp. Set up your gear for Koam and Daresso fight.
Buy Enduring Cry from A2 vender
Trade for Enfeeble x2.
Buy 3x Blood Magic from A3 Vendor.

This is where I did my first real gear setup.
Make sure to have 4L Armor, Boots, and Gloves w/ CwDT setups
Set up Blood Magic + Enfeeble + Fire Golem + Enduring cry in a piece of gear
Set up Molten strike + Blood Magic + Weapon elemental dmg + whatever in another.
Make sure to have 4 hp potions and a stanching flask.
Make sure to have at least 1, prefer 2 instant-heal flasks.
Go back and Grind Dried Lake if you think you need more gear. I was missing some staunching flasks but I managed w/ a few close calls of corrupted blood and puncture.

Kill:
*Keep fortify, endurance charges, Arctic Armour, and a portal up and you'll be fine. Join a party for a good laugh watching people die while you tank the bosses.
Koam - max your Fire res
Daresso - max your Cold res

Enter Belly of the Best.

Cruel
I progressed through cruel just like normal. Picking up all 4 Links, identifying claws, and transmuting claws I found. Now is a good time to start doing Masters missions. Seems as if the game is much easier now. I still used the same gear from A4 normal all the way through, our gems provide our strength anyways.

Cruel A4.
I started farming Dried Lake. Voll doesn't hit too hard and he has a good drop. Also Masters and corrupted areas can spawn. Pretty easy area to farm. Farm this area until you find some good gear or the currency needed to buy some good gear. I'm level 63 right now already have over 2 exalt worth of currency. So easy to save because we don't need to spend load of $$ on weapons we get our power from gems. What to look for?
Buy a 5 link str / dex armour and craft it.
Each piece of gear should have at least 60 hp and a resist and able to at least craft a 2nd resist.
Put a Masters craft on every piece of gear if you can.
Start w./ 5 link chest then continue to upgrade from there 1 weakest item at a time.
It took me until Grinding A4 Dried Lake to lvl 64 and used about all my currency to upgrade gear.

FAQ
Spoiler

How are you melee with no armor?
If you know how armor works, the higher the damage, the less effective armor is. So, instead of focusing on armor, we directly decrease monster damage exponentially with skills. Enfeeble 25%, Fortify 20%, 3 Endurance Charges 12%, Arctic Armor 13%. We also avoid taking any damage with Arcobatics, a little evasion, and then a bit of armor on our gear helps further mitigate physical damage. If you have access to limitless wealth then yes, get more armor.

You no longer use GMP?
Molten shell still Shotguns and you still get life on hit per each ball, but I prefer critical strike for unlimited flasks.

Why claws?
For the implicate Life on Hit on Claws.

Why not remove Blood Magic and use 1 less aura?
That makes things more complex and then you can run out of mana now must use a mana potion.

Why not Wild Strike or Ice Blades?
I think wild strike and Ice blades are inferior to molten strike when utilizing the gem combinations we are using. They hit less often resulting in less life on hit, less damage, and it's questionable that point blank would increase Ice Blades damage. If I were to use those gems, it would be with a life leech gem and a cast on crit build. I think those skills require more expensive gear to be effetcive and with that gear they likely clear faster than molten strike except for single target.

Why use critical chance if other gems add more DPS?
Not everything is about DPS. Having more critical chance allows us to fully recharge certain flasks before the duration is up.

Any and all feedback is appreciated. Post gear and skill tree if you are having problems so I can point you in the right direction.

Why not use a pure evasion chest? You'd have to swap WED for Faster Attacks so that you wouldn't be stuck spending a thousand chromes trying to make a pure evasion chest RRRRG, but the faster attacks should result in even more life gained. Might have to math it out to see if it would be a DPS loss.
Why not use a pure evasion chest?
I would love to use pure evasion chest but it is too expensive to get 3 red in a 5 link at this low of a level. The beauty of this build is you really don't need any evasion or armor. As you level up you should have enough hp and Life on hit to directly tank anything. I am using the armor chest because that is what I found and crafted. I'd Imagine endgame gear would be a pure evasion chest but right now I don't need it nor have the currency to roll one.

... the faster attacks should result in even more life gained...
Faster attacks does result in slightly more life gained, but as of now I already leech enough hp. Currently, I see a significant dmg boost using weapon elemental dmg over faster attacks. Although, in endgame gear when you have 3-4 pieces of gear w/ +20-30 weapon elemental dmg, you may see a damage boost by adding faster attacks over weapon elemental dmg. I am contemplating using faster attacks instead of concentrated effect for a 6th link. I am already at 8.2 attacks per second and over 10 attacks per second using vaal haste. Faster attacks will do less dmg than conc. effect, but I am starting to like the increased AOE. I will test it once I get a 6th link.

What about avatar of fire and convert 100% of your phys into fire damage?
What about avatar of fire and convert 100% of your phys into fire damage?
Problem with that is it will convert all of your other damage into fire damage as well. Which will reduce your overall damage.

I've been trying this build over the last couple of days, and I have to say that I like it quite a lot. I just killed Dom normal... No great accomplishment, but it's given me a bit of a feel for how this will work. DPS is fine, and the life regen is truly awesome.

One question - no defensive auras? Wrath and Anger for the damage... Survivability is still ok when you get to merciless and end-game?

One question - no defensive auras? Wrath and Anger for the damage... Survivability is still ok when you get to merciless and end-game?
I actually plan on switching to four offensive auras for end-game (you can probably swap out an aura or two as you need them). I am lvl 81 right now and running 70 maps with little problem. This beauty of this build is you only need HP, attack speed, and leech. Thats it. The thing is, this is an acrobatics build so armor is halved, and evasion only dodges the attacks, sooner or later you will get hit with high evasion but thats where the cast on dmg taken Immortal call comes in. By the time you get hit again, your hp will be full from the implicate life on hit mod of the claws.

I still run Acrobatics over Iron Reflexes and Grace because I have had a few close call with void bearers and I don't think I would have survived without the spell dodge. Since you must get up close and personal with this build, Acrobatics works best.

I need to change my passive trees for more hp instead of the Attack speed nodes I chose. I ended up ripping to Palace Map Dom Smash. He 1 hit me from 5k hp to 0 (I thought I was rambo and could facetank which I did until I was smashed). I thought 5K hp was enough to tank him but I am thinking we need 6K. I will test his damage later. My plan is to be able to facetank any mob even Azuri. But I don't get much playtime so I'm not there yet.

I do plan on testing, Blood Rage, and I may even get rid of whirling blades for another aura. If enough hp I may swap granite flask w/ Amethyst flask +1 charge on crit. Anyways more testing will be done as this build evolves.

I've been trying this build over the last couple of days, and I have to say that I like it quite a lot
Glad you like the build. I love it as well. I facetanked everything up to Merciless Vaal. You can't facetank him until U have 4.8k hp and max fire res and enfeeble. Maybe add self cast endurance charges as well for added safety.

I will be adding more videos as well. How to craft a good claw, some higher lvl map runs, and then hopefully azuri.

Skills:
Vaal Haste / Herald of Fire
Vengence / Enduring Cry
Increased Duration / Reduced Mana

What are those ? Where do we add those ?

MoltenStrike: in Armor ...
The 2 CwdT + Wrath : in helm,gloves,boots.

Enfeeble,whirl,Bm: weapon

only a 3 Socket weapon left... and you have these
Vaal Haste / Herald of Fire
Vengence / Enduring Cry
Increased Duration / Reduced Mana

Enlighten me please :)
Skills:
Vaal Haste / Herald of Fire
Vengence / Enduring Cry
Increased Duration / Reduced Mana

Ahhh. Thank you. Sometimes I think people can read my mind :P.

Those are alternative skills. Basically once you reach lvl 90 or so when you can run a 4th aura, then you switch Vaal Haste w/ Herald of Fire, Vengence w/ Self Cast ENduring Cry, and Inceased DUration w/ Reduced Mana. I actually just changed my whole skill setup so this has changed I will go ahead and update what I am currently using. I have not made it to a 4th aura yet Prolly around lvl 89. I'm 82 right now.

Heres my Current Setup:
Helm
1. CoDT (lvl 13)
2. Immortal Call
3. Vaal Haste <--- This is self cast and hope it gets fixed to auto proc
4. Increased Duration
Armor
1. Molten Strike
2. Multistrike
3. GMP
4. Blood Magic
5. Weapon ELemental Dmg
6. Faster Attacks or Conc Effect
Gloves
1. Herald of Thunder
2. Wrath
3. Anger
4. Reduced Mana
Boots
1. CoDT (lvl 1)
2. Enfeeble
3. Arctic Breath
4. Enduring Cry
Weapon
1. Blood Magic // Reduced Mana
2. Enfeeble // Herald of Ash
3. Whirling Blades (lvl 1)
Weapon
1. CoDT (lvl 12)
2. Spell Totem
3. Haste <--- Free 4th Aura!

Weapon Swap sword and shield self cast enfeeble and enduring cry. just in case!

Thanks for the correction I hope you try this build out it's a blast. But I am having some problems finding endgame weapons. Tooltip DPS is 7.8k with 215 dps weapons in a 5 link. We doing about 3x the tooltip dps though. I fear we will have to craft our endgame weapon but claws do not have many mods so it wont be much problem. But as you can see cheap and effective
