Item Appearance Mods

I searched but didn't see this suggested yet, sorry if it's been covered.

I'd like to see either:

1) Items that have appearance mods on them highlighted with a color box.

or

2) The appearance mods never leave their inventory slot so they can be transferred to another item without removing first.

The reason is, I sometimes forget to remove the mods and put them in my stash. It's a real PITA trying to find them again. :)
