Ice Shot Cone stacking question

I was wondering when the cones of multiple ice shot arrows stack on a mob, does the damage register as 1 hit or 2 different hits?

Hits don't combine, if the target was hit by two cones it received two hits.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
