Big increase in ping and desync since 12-10-2014

Does anyone know if anything has changed in recent days, with regards to how the game loads mobs and areas?
Since Sunday I have noticed a big increase in ping and desync, game has almost become unplayable.

I normally have about 200 ping (I play from South Africa on the EU gateway) which is about right for any online games I play on EU servers, Dota 2 etc.

But since Sunday my ping still hangs around 200 when I'm in my hideout or standing still, but when moving in a new area, it can spike up between 600 to 900. Initially I thought maybe it was a bad day (ISP having problems etc) But I have noticed the same problem ever since. The more I watch my ping graph the more it looks like that my high ping spikes are directly related to the amount of mobs in a fight. IE. as I encounter a new pack, it spikes up. If i stand still the ping line stays flat.

My question I guess, has something changed recently? Because this never seemed to be the case, maybe someone else has a similar problem?

Ok, this is the WinMTR report when I am just standing in my hideout, going through stash tabs and sorting things out. Seems fine.

I will now do one when running around in a map, killing.
Just did a whole map, and didnt seem to have to issue I mentioned at all. Completely different experience than the last 3 days. Report seems to show no significant difference between standing in HO and runnin in map.

Hey FerrisWJ,

It's surprising that you are experiencing packet loss in one trace but not in another for the same gateway and route. Do you play during any certain times of day? Do you share your connection with any other users? Do you run any background programs while playing Path of Exile?

It looks like your connectivity issues may be resolved. You are welcome to keep providing WinMTR reports and information as this issues escalates further.

Thanks for the reply Yeran.

Post 1 is from Tuesday evening my time, it was when I had been experiencing this problem for 3 days, and I had come to the conclusion it wasn't a temporary ISP issue from my side.

I woke up Wednesday morning to get my hour in before having to go to work (I know, I'm addicted) and it was remarkably better, I noticed it straight away. (Post 2 and 3)

I did everything to check nothing else was using the wifi (turned off all cellphones, no other laptops were on, no background downloads running.) I have a bandwidth monitor on my gaming rig and that was not showing any use, and given that this had been a constant issue since Sunday I was sure it was some thing else. Any way, it certainly seemed better this morning. But I will post any further updates.
So at this point, you should run more traces at different times of day and determine if your issue is at all related to time. If it's always good in the morning and bad in the evenings, then it's likely a congestion issue as evenings and weekends are "peak times".

It is similar to "rush hour" for traffic in cars. When you get too many people using the same roads at the same time, they can't all go full speed. There just isn't enough open road for everyone to always travel max speed with that much congestion. Packets are the same way in the network.
