Expectations and Opinions

Hadn't played an ARPG since Diablo 2 single player, and only came here for 3 reasons:
A) Finally got sick of Skyrim but still wanted to kill things and pick up stuff B) Mighty Quest For Epic Loot sucked C) New Zealand company! My expectations? 20 or 30 hours worth of free entertainment with little to no commitment. God knows what happened :( Now I can't even go to sleep at night without dreaming about the Plummeting Ursa Pet that I will never be able to get. == Officially Retired 27/02/2019 == Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years. Best of luck in the future! Last edited by CaptainWaffleIron#2395 on Oct 8, 2014, 7:21:26 PM

I don't know what the hell I think about Path of Exile. There are a thousand things wrong with it and so many issues that it causes me to get a headache sometimes.
However, as soon as I try to play another game, I find myself craving PoE again instead. I keep coming back and I just can't help it. I consider the game to be superior to every other ARPG I have played and I've also sunk more playtime into it than I'd care to admit. That said, I guess I am kind of in the same boat as Charan in that the game has been going in a direction that I don't entirely agree with and it isn't really where I wanted it to go. However, it is still fun and GGG still seem to be focused on whatever their goal for the game is. I await Act IV. "Danger is like jello, there's always room for more."

" Im not sure i entirely agree. I do indeed enjoy this game, and im actually quite content with where and what it has become. However, to say I wouldnt enjoy a slightly cleaner netcode experience, would be bullshitting myself. Im not going to go on a bash trip over this games legacy with Desync, because frankly, it doesnt hamper the things i truly enjoy and appreciate in this game. However, when i see a polite statement addressing *two issues that imo, are the most glaring problems currently with game, I will agree without hesitation. EDIT : Oh, and the third most glaring issue... The fact that I see mobs with Phase Run affix, and GGG took mine away! GGG - Why you no? Last edited by JoannaDark#6252 on Oct 8, 2014, 7:47:24 PM

Gem system, passive skills system, loot, gems etc. Everything is almost perfect for me. Almost because there are some details which should never happen like:
concept problems: eternal orbs + mirrors (one of them should be never created, or eternals should not revert crafted mods or items should have limited copies allowed) legacy items (I get that sometimes things get out of control, but there are just too many of them) too many completely useless uniques technical: desync, but I guess in PoE 2 it will be handled better. I would also like to see some way of character progression other than just leveling. That's for levels 90+, coz it's going so slow than some kind of other small reward during that last levels would be welcome. |

I expect the game to stay the best ARPG on the market. I hope GGG lives up to this expectation. They're certainly trying.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

The one area still not living up to my expectations: the visual design of PoE's monsters. GGG's artists seem the most comfortable with the generic undead type of monsters but any time they deviate from that it's bad news. I've seen a hundred giant spider models in videogames and PoE's are some of the most boring. This has nothing to do with poly count, the shapes are just weak.
And so much non-threatening wild life. The devourers seem out of place because they're actually monsters instead of monkeys, birds, bears, lizards, crabs, or beetles. Other things seem like they might be monsters but the design is so weak you can't really tell what they are. Is that a potted plant with a vine coming out? Is that a guy in a ghillie suit? And apart from the undead very little meshes together. Going through a zone like hedge maze that's just a disjointed, ugly (and not in a good way) mess is the one time I'm still nostalgic for D2. |
