Expectations and Opinions

I'm writing to see how others feel about the execution of POE. I think we can all agree, this game has some amazing ideas. Skill gem/links, currency/crafting, and so on...

It seems obvious that Chis's vision of POE was indeed a great idea.

I'd like to hear other players chime in and talk about whether or not POE is up to their expectations, and collect ideas for how it could be improved.
Optimize the graphics engine, mitigate desync so you can actually trust what's on the screen are the two things PoE can improve upon the most.

Everything else GGG has been responsive about and is constantly improving or has solid plans to improve.

I'll add to the list, reduce 1 shot mechanics for players and monsters and offer gameplay that utilizes player skill and intervention. Basically, get the numbers right before adding anything new.

agreed.
GGG - Why you no?
I play only RPG games most of the times because I love them. PoE is a great game and I really like the graphics, the atmosphere, the skill tree reminds me Final Fantasy X, the skill gem system is great aswell. There are a few things that bothers me in this game however. There is no class, only a character. I mean if I pick a Thief or a Templar in another RPG game, the differences are obvious. Here ? Not so much, I can build them the way I want so it comes to a personal preference and min maxing builds. The next thing is the technical execution of some things like the desynch and the laggs which are by no means casued by my superfast connection.
The last thing which I dislike and actually this is why I quit the game is the gameplay. I just really dont like how every character I create and play are pushed into using one skill over and over. That is boring to me like hell. Perfect examples are : RF, Flameblaster, ST, Power Siphon wander... and I could go on and on and on. I prefer to have a set of skills unique to each character/class and use more skills than one. I really dont count auras and Curses as extra spells. With a fire based spellcaster I really would like to use Fireballs for single target, Flameblast and Firestorm for AoE, Flammability, Molten Shell for defense and some escape tool. But sadly, there is not enough room to make these skill stronger so players are using the strongest one which is obviously put into a 5- 6 link item and thats it. I cant even watch streamers playing this game, is far from entertaining. This was cool when Diablo 2 came out almost 15 years ago because it was something new and different from the other games, but its not cool for me to play like this in the year 2014. I find it really boring.
I like the game a lot.

I don't like that the development of the game is focusing on the players who have maxed characters and are looking for a challenge. The core game is being steadily made more and more difficult to appease players who twink and get aid from partying and that leaves the game becoming more and more unplayable for players who choose to play solo/self-found. I find it harder and harder to get up the will to play, and that's not how a game should be. I find that areas I can "enjoy" are not rewarding, and areas that are rewarding are too risky to find enjoyable. I'd definitely prefer it if future efforts were to expand the game in parallel with the existing game, rather than trying to add more to the end game.
The first time I heard and saw something of PoE was a few weeks after D3 came out. I was wondering whether to buy it or not, and there was this guy supposedly doing a review of it, with in-game footage.
What he did though was that he played PoE while talking about what a disappointment D3 was to him, and occasionally comparing it to PoE. I think he ran the prison in act 1. I thought that was very funny.

But my impression was not quite fulfilled. I thought the gameplay to be a bit more complex than it turned out to be (having to use more buttons, and having more intricate bossfight designs), and I never thought it to be so trade heavy. Was a bit disappointed when I eventually found that out.

If you ever needed proof that people feel the Feedback board is a failure, here it is in one neat little thread-package.

LOL.

This forum is about General discussion and Gemaplay discussion. Nothing else. You wont get much feedback from players in the feedback section on this forum. Not many visitors.
Feedback has enough visitors, but people are not so eager to leave their feedback in some free-for-all blanket thread. They rather make their own 1000th desync or qq thread.
wasn't expecting much when i first jumped on this game, was burned out by diablo 3, played a bit of torchlight 2, but never really got a feel for it, then jumped back at diablo 2, but its really noticeable now how aged that game is graphic wise, even thought it still can me uncomfortable which i always liked.

But since this game sorta reminded me of the gory graphic of diablo 2, i gave it a shot, which i do not regret, so you can say my low expectations was fulfilled :)

what I would like to see improved in this game, is the way act 2 and 3 flows, compared to act 1, which i really like.

The thing about act 2 and 3 is that unlike act 1, you are no longer following a straight path, which i know is something that most newer games gets criticized for, but what I always liked about diablo 1 and 2 was that it always felt like you progressed throughout an act, unlike the feeling i get in act 2 and 3 here, where it sometimes seems awful stale.
