Difference between "% Less mana reserved" and "% reduced mana reserved?"

Was doing some theory crafting and realized there are two different types of mana reduction but I couldn't figure out the difference. What is the difference between "% less mana reserved" and "% reduced mana reserved"?

Lets say I have 20% reduced and 60% less from the skill tree. Does that reduce everything by 80%? Does it reduce it by 60% first and then the remaining amount gets hit with the 20%? Does it work in another way?
The second way you suggested is how it works. In PoE-speak, 'more' and 'less' signify modifiers that are multiplicative with other modifiers of the same stat, while 'increased' and 'reduced' signify additive modifiers.
Have you done something awesome with Sire of Shards? PM me and tell me all about it!
Well, kinda sorta how it works; Reservations are funky.

The game multiplies Less and Reduced Mana Reserved to get a single multiplier, and calculates your final Reduction using that result.
(100 -Red) * (100 -Less) / 100 - 100 = Total %Reduction

30% Reduced and 60% Less works out as follows:
(100 - 30) * (100 - 60) / 100 - 100 = 70*40/100-100 = -72%

Lazy mathematician version: 0.7*0.4 = 28% remaining, ergo 72% reduction.

While we're on the topic:
Supports pop up in an entirely separate calculation prior to Reduced/Less. The result is rounded down. This also means a level 21 Reduced Mana doesn't do much for 40/60% Reserves on its own:
60 * 0.71 = 42.6, rounds to 42% Base Reserved
60 * 0.70 = 42% Base Reserved - same result as lv20

The reduction calculated above is applied to this value as follows:
42 * 0.72 = 30.24, rounds to 30
42 - 30 = 12% final Reserve
In addition to Vipermagi's calculations: Remember to count all of your reservations first. This is a nice example:

Auras you want to use: Grace, Purity, Vitality, Hatred

Total reservation of these auras: 60+40+40+60 = 200%

With lvl 21 reduced mana, this would be: 2 * 0,7 = 1,4 (140%)

In addition you have 34 reduced mana reservation from talents:
Reservation with gem * (100% - 0,34) ---> 1,4*0,66 = 0,924 (92,4%, now you can finally use them)

If you have Mortal Conviction (-60 less mana reserved) the result would be:

Previous reservation * (1-0,6) ---> 0,94*0,4 = 0,3696 (36,9% --> 36% reservation from life)

But, if you had lvl 20 reduced mana, your reservation would be 37,488% ---> 37%. In this case, it's somewhat significant.
If you add up your Reserves like that I will kill you, some day. That does not work.

Using your numbers (lv21 RM, 34% Reduced):
60 * 0.70 = 42%
42 * 0.34 = 14.28
42 - 14 = 28% per 60% Aura

40 * 0.70 = 28
28 * 0.34 = 9.52
28 - 9 = 19% per 40% Aura

28+28+19+19 = 94% Reserved.

With MC:
0.66*0.4 = 0.264 -> 74% reduction*
42 * 0.74 = 31.08
42 - 31 = 11% per 60% Aura
28 * 0.74 = 20.72
28 - 20 = 8% per 40% Aura

11+11+8+8 = 38% Reserved (Sefriol got 36% here - proper procedure means proper results)

If you used a level 20 RM instead:

60 * 0.71 = 42.6, rounds to 42%
42 * 0.34 = 14.28
42 - 14 = 28% per 60% Aura

As I had already stated, there is no difference between a level 20 and a level 21 RM. You'll still be reserving 38% of your Life pool, but won't have spent tons on lv21 RM Gems that don't have any effect.

* = Total %Reduction is, for some reason, exempt from the normal rule of "always round down"; it instead rounds to nearest.

It seems that you are right. Every aura is calculated on it's own and decimals are not included. I remembered that there was a GGG post where they stated that this was not the case.

Even this old addon counts things as I did, but when I tested it on live, it wasn't the case.

With lvl 19 reduced mana, alpha's howl and 34 from talents I managed to keep 4x 60% auras on, even though addon states that this couldn't be possible.
