A tale of integrity.
" You are completely missing the point. They shouldn't be doing these sorts of changes mid-league. Period. There can be no sense of true competition when things like this are happening. Imagine if halfway through the Olympics they changes the rules for some of the games. It's a terrible balance strategy and flies in the face of their previous stance of waiting it out. Especially with shorter leagues there is no reason it couldn't wait. Team Won Last edited by ggnorekthx on Sep 26, 2014, 8:30:10 AM

" No, I mean changing the price of crafting something doesn't ruin a character that someone has ALREADY made. The same types of weapons will still be good for that character and will still be available. They will just be more expensive. The change to how traps worked COULD potentially ruin an entire build and force someone to reroll. That is a huge difference. Also, the people who got an "advantage" by using this mod while it was available cheaply did so simply by putting more time into it. They probably would have had an advantage over most of the people complaining about the change anyway. I'm betting most of the ones complaining about this don't even have a master at level 8 to use the mod anyway and many still won't by the end of the league. " This being one example. They couldn't afford the OLD price either, so how does this even affect them. Even if they had someone else craft it for them or tried to buy from someone who did, it's still gonna cost AT LEAST a divine either way. And no, it doesn't give any "advantage" to the people who got there early. You had the same opportunity to use the mod as they did before the change. You will have the same opportunity to do so after the change as they will. There was/will be no point in time where they can get a different price on it than what you have available to you at that same time. If the people who got there early could STILL get the lower price and anyone who leveled up their masters afterward had to pay the new price, THEN you'd have a good argument for it being unfair. As it is now though, I really don't see how it's an unfair advantage for them just because YOU, for whatever reason, weren't able to take full advantage of the lower price. Again, you had the same CHANCE to use it then as they did. And in any case, it would be nice if people stopped judging every change by "How does it affect me?" and started thinking about "How does it affect the game as a whole?" instead more. As powerful as this mod can be in the right circumstances, I think 2ex is very reasonable as a price. It might not get you a mirror worthy item, but it will certainly get you one that can carry you pretty deep into endgame content.
" I'd argue that they've never said they won't make changes AT ALL mid-league. They clearly change all kinds of stuff every two weeks. What they WON'T do is make changes that invalidate entire builds. They've actually been pretty consistent on this as far as I can remember and this change is still consistent with that as well.
Thx ephetat, i read your name as "last posted" and i was not disappointed.
Your assessment is correct btw and i agree. And maybe your comparison is better, i was just thinking of a similar situations where a decision is made to allow a bug or unintended use of game mechanics to exist to the end of the league as to allow an equal playing field among all participants. Now they are setting a precedent that they are willing to change ladder defining changes mid-league. Which piles up on the other chaos already present within the game structure. (balancing skills every X months, switching the meta every x months, destroying build x in the process every x months etc...) I always felt sort of "secure" within a single league time-frame. However if this change goes live, i fear it opens the door to a lot of trouble in the future, partially because integrity or a "direction" is lost. Peace, -Boem- (again, price and power of the mod are irrelevant to this thread it's about the timing of this change and how it effect's the player-base in a "mid-league" situation) On the topic of this mod existing across league's, this is a fair point ephetat and one i considered, i don't consider it to be a powerful enough argument for GGG to disregard there previous method of handling occurrences like this since a sense of stability in next league's takes priority over the current instability. As well as being nothing more then an added "time investment" increase, which is exactly what it is since the mod is not removed just upped in price.(just to say, that this argument fails for regular HC/SC league, where the price of this mod could be 8 exalts and still be considered a "fair deal" for it's result) Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" I didn't think people actually cared about the ladder. I did miss it.
@Hodari, are you actually going to argue that a weapons base dps is irrelevant to the success-rate of a build?
If so, i am at a loss. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

@terrex
I should clarify that I do actually agree with you. It shouldn't have been a mod. But since it is, they should really just bite the bullet and leave it until the league ends. It's definitely not balanced, but 2ex isn't really fixing anything. The damage is done to the challenge leagues, and they obviously don't care about Standard/HC so they might as well wait. " " " Oh, I understood your point, but you are comparing two very different things which was explained by posters in this thread. The comparison you made is not logical. Sorry. The underlying message to the player-base is: We will make amendments to our game to keep it in line with the GGG vision. This is a recipe cost change, not a character-destroying change mid-league. Just for try for see and for know. She corpse exploded the corpse of the boss... Last edited by Zanixx on Sep 26, 2014, 9:27:14 AM

The comparison is entirely logical, but i can agree that maybe other occurrences could be used for a "simpler" comparison.
A : an unintended game mechanic is utilized to create an advantage within a league ladder compared to other players, after this info is being leaked, GGG takes a stance to allow it's existence until the end of the ladder as to allow competition in a healthy environment.(allowing all who desire to utilize the same abuse for the same benefit) B : an unintended game mechanic is utilized to create an advantage within a league ladder compared to other players, after this info is being leaked, GGG takes a stance to change the mechanic creating an unfair advantage for those who prior utilized this unintended game mechanic. Thus no longer allowing the appearance of competition. Both cases are the same, only the actions of GGG are different and this is troublesome for the health of future league's and the competition within them. Peace, -Boem- (the fact that you, or other posters might not understand the comparison i am making, while others obviously can is not my fault, since it's about the ladder/meta-game i don't expect all of the community to understand it, since i believe not all of the community are interested in this part of the game, however this does not change the fact that it is a relevant concern given the patch nodes and there implications) Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes
