Large number of disconnects (EU, logs & mtr incl)

Hi,

Had a very large number of disconnects over this weekend, almost always on zoning. Network looks fine. The mtr is fairly short, but I've also been running a ping to the server over the time connected, which showed no packet loss.

mtr below:

Do you use Nvidia graphics?
I have had many freezes/DC's (and yes, some happen while changing zones)..
It might started with the new drivers that i installed friday or saturday..

Also i found out via event viewer that Adobe flash player's autoupdater seem to stop/start like 3 times/hour and it is the only thing that happens frequintly enough to be blamed, i see no hardware/driver related issues in my logs.

I will disable that auto-updater and see what happens...

I disconnected once in an instance, and have had trouble zoning since. WinMtr against one of the instance servers from the log show nothing too radical, but the second to last stop (with the highest max) may have some issues.

But as the end server does not show the same issue, I doubt that matters. Gut feeling? Some poe servers are having issues.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

I had a couple disconnects (EU) yesterday, too. I think that was the first time in months. Today, my ping sits at 90ms (usually 60ms) and spikes to 700ms a lot. Traceroute looks fine, nothing else uses the connection. Whatever it is, it is server-side.
Judging by the large number of similar things, it doesn't seem to be a client side problem.

Be nice to have some GGG confirmation that they're at least looking at it...

What "large number" are you referring to?

There are millions of players. Only a few have reported issues... usually when that's the case, it is a REGIONAL issue, and not anything to do with GGG's servers.

My guess is that this situation is the same. There is something locally to the PC or the Region causing issues. If it were a server problem, there would be a LOT more people here complaining (as evident by the disappearing wand/bow bug back at the last patch).

Just because a few people say they have a problem, doesn't instantly mean the problem is with the server. In fact, it usually isn't.
I've done some further testing.

L3 connections to your EU softlayer DC are fine. It's going from BT (UK) via LINX to softlayer directly. It's possible that one of these ports is oversubscribed, but in that case I'd expect to see packet loss with ICMP and TCP SYN probes. This means that if it's a network issue, it's probably local to your DC, behind the external network - which seems unlikely.

L7 connections are not fine. I've even had intermittent issues loading the website, not to mention issues connecting to the patching and instance server(s), so it probably isn't just a single misbehaving device.

Since it apparently wasn't obvious:
I'm referring to the large numbers of similar posts - over the weekend this forum was pretty much full of complaints about disconnects - largely EU based.
Oh, and it's not my computers.
It's also been a frequent complaint in the global chat this weekend and earlier today.

"a few" COmpared to how many people you usually see mentioning one issue, there is quite a lot in this case and so far there has been a lot of people in different regions. So it's almost certainly a client issue, or something with the hosting, either way it's not individuals connections/computers.

I've had no issues at all playing. No disconnections, no lag. Granted I might be getting extremely lucky and not hitting any affected servers, but generally, when something is going on, we know about it fairly instantly.

The few people who are complaining are really minor in terms of the overall user count. I'd say for the VAST majority of people, there is no issue (95%+). I'm not saying there isn't a regional or other issue.. in fact, there probably is. I'm just saying it is very unlikely to be a server issue.

But all this is really just conjecture without DATA to back it up. You can say "it's not my connection" all day long if you want. Doesn't really matter to me... because without hard data, it's merely your opinion. Trust me in that I have been around here long enough to know that when there is a server issue it becomes IMMEDIATELY apparent... and that this is likely NOT a server issue.
