There is a problem with armor.

Armor as a defense is too weak. The fact that it's paper-strong against big hits means that even a humble Cloak of Flame ends up being better mitigation against phys crits end-game.

When an entire defensive strat is trumped by a 1c unique, you know you have a problem.

And while Cloak of Flame + AA isn't exactly god mode, people who know what they're doing find flat phys mitigation usually either via MoM + EB or Lightning Coil + max lightning res.

Is armor intended to be a noob trap, that people only use until they figure out how the game actually works?
But it also makes you a god versus a ton of weaker hits, which are a problem for say.... Evasion.

All defenses have their strengths and weaknesses. That's the point.

OK, sure, but the monsters that have a ton of weaker hits are generally projectile monsters that you can effectively ignore with Ondar's, Arctic Armor, or by simply leeching/life gain on hitting through the damage.

Armor doesn't do enough against large burst damage hits, which are what actually kill you.

err thats the thing, a lot of weaker hits are not a problem for evasion, cause you lose like 300 life every 10 hits, you just regen/leech that shit back, evasion is weak against heavy hitting stuff that can one shot you if you dont evade it.

As long as you have a decent amount of life/ES, the things that one-shot you when they get through your evasion/block/dodge will also one-shot you if they get through your armor.

Yeah, im not disputing the fact that armor is, and has always been, shit.

Its just the way that the mechanic works, the bigger the hit the less you reduce it, which means getting slammed by vaal for example requires a LOT of armor to survive.

But armor does have its uses, its really nice against small hitters, and even some mobs that hit harder, even with 8k armor you see a massive difference when youre getting rhoa rushed for example than when you have no armor.

My main annoyance with armor is not the fact that it works in a wierd way, its that its completely useless against reflect, especially crit physical reflect, like EK, i really think they should change the mechanic at least for reflect because killing yourself through your armor when you dont even do that much damage is kinda stupid.

+22K armor and 5 endurance charges i have 90% phys reduction, survive to two successive carnage slams with 3.3K life (no extra damage mod)
maybe my regen keeps me alive +380/s
