It sucks but that is what you are getting into when you play HC in PoE. I think we've all lost high level characters in HC to desync at one point or another. Reroll and move on! It really does suck though and it hurts ones motivation to continue.
You want to see desync? I am grouped with someone who is using cyclone specced for knockback. Now THAT is desync. It is a shame because its actually a cool concept for what he was going for. It just can never ever work in PoE because PoE is broken. "Danger is like jello, there's always room for more."
