Wrong video adapter and weird loading times
Hey folks!
so i have installed PoE on steam. unfortunately im having a few problems: the loading time from launching the game to the login screen is atleast a minute. at some points it looks like the game isnt even gonna do it, so i kill it and from 2-3 time it works. minimizing seems to increase the risk of game not going anywhere. the loading times from area to area are very long. moreover - when it loads after certain period of time i can see the 'loading' windows mouse cursor, which in most cases would make the game not responding if i started clicking. which... i dont, so the only problem there is loading time. now the last problem which i bet is responsible for the other two is that in the options it says that im using the intel hd 4000. which contrary to popular belief is not the worst card in the world - in the game itself im not experiencing framerate problems. what i have tried: 1. checking google for switchable graphics problems related to path of exile, but it seems every AMD thread ends without a solution. 2. i tried going to my switchable graphics options to enable path of exile to use 'high performance' setting which in pretty much every other game case (even by default actually), makes it so that my amd radeon 8500M card is used. now obviously since im writing this thread - that didnt work. any help would be appreciated.
Did you read this thread? http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/50507/page/2
Loading screen problems have many players, for me it takes from 30 seconds to 1 minute to load the game. The load time is based on your HDD fragmentation, free space, proggrams that run and client resource preloading. You can add --nosound to poe chortcut and see will the loading time change for you, but you will be playing without sound after that. Sorry for my English, it's not my native language. well the first post in that thread, i did it.
i even put something called graphics monitor - it says that poe is using high performance setting... while in game it says its using the intel hd 4000. also i didnt actually see anyone in that thread saying that it solved it for them. if nosound makes such a huge difference, im pretty sure thats not anyones system that is problematic, but the game itself. Then the only solution I can see is to disable integrated card through bios.
On Dell forum user suggested to replace video cards http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19474269.aspx?pi239031352=2 Also you should delete production_config (located in my games>path of exile) as it can contain the old information about your adapter device Sorry for my English, it's not my native language. well dell forum kinda explained the same thing like other sources just more thoroughly.
doesnt work. | |
" Hi fartloud, In cases where you've set the game to use a dedicated graphics card, it often isn't reflected in-game so you don't need to disable the card itself - if the game's performing better than before you set it to use the dedicated card you should be fine. Loading times generally aren't as affected by your graphics card as they are by your Hard Drive speeds/fragmentation. I recommend defragmenting both your hard drive and the game's content.ggpk to see if that helps. Gameplay & Level Design

well thats the thing, i have played PoE on my older laptop during the time when it was difficult to even get a beta key... and it was loading everything much better.
now i suspect the game got more resources to work with now, but a simple load from area to area... how could that increase, when the laptop im using now is better in every way? *shrug* please refrain from telling that laptops are not meant to be for games. its running most games just fine. id have to search hard to find a game that loads as slow as PoE. i also looked at the ggpk thingy, but it says not to use it with steam version. thats great, because im using steam version lol. my dxdiag here:

Hey there,
I've noticed not only im getting this HUGE problem. have the same laptop. I tried lots of solutions and didn't help. My poe shows Intel4000 in options but checked with program gpu-z and it shows that poe uses radeon it made me happy a bit, only a bit coz i still have the problem with teleporting from area to other areas, happens the same to me "the game not responding" while changing area, and after 30-40sec im in a place. It is a real pain in da a***.. I installed new drivers from here> http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=388630 and ive noticed a lil jump of fps but still long time teleporting. Also when i'm changing textures it takes about 40s to change from low to high and high to low. Soz for low english.. Regards
it is possible that my radeon is actually used and the intel hd 4000 is just visual in options even if its not used.
still, those loading times... edit: i tried the --softwareaudio and it might have made a small difference, but not sure. then i tried --nosound and the initial load was sort of simillar to usual, but the area-to-area loading is probably 2-3 times faster. great.
