Looking for a fun Shadow build

I'm fairly new to this game and would like to try the Shadow! I looked through some of the guides here but it is difficult to judge how they play out. This is what I am looking for:

- something that is fun to play, mostly melee based mixed with some magic (daggers, claws...?)
- robust enough to solo also most of the late content
- not depending on very expensive gear

I don't play a lot of melee characters, but maybe at some point you could try out a ranged Ethereal Knives (EK) build. What's awesome about the Ethereal Knives spell is that it can get quite powerful (10k-20k dps) without costing you much of anything, you can even play self-found. The reason for this is that most of your power comes from gems.

Thanks! Looks like an interesting build! The only problem is that this sounds very similar to what I usually play in RPGs (range DPS, casters) and I was now looking to try something different in PoE. I'm not a big fan of pure melee builds and I was hoping to find some melee/caster hybrid in this game. I will probably try the EK build anyway but I'm still looking for something else!
