game freezes but not really.

*&*&*&* I have fixed the issue. I decided to bite the bullet and uninstall and delete everything related to pathofexile and reinstall even though the installation was only a week old. No longer freezes upon the first engaged monster.

****fully reworked this post with relevant accurate information.

Packcheck came back clean and the ggpk defrag program opened up 23mb of space.

Lets start first by clarifying your symptoms into what is actually happening (or not happening).

So you're playing the game. You go into a zone and go to hurt a monster. As soon as you attack, your whole game "Freezes" momentarily... you cannot move, you don't see anything else move during this "freeze" time (although monsters are still hitting you, you cannot SEE it happen on your screen until the "freeze" is over).

Is that correct?

If so, this sounds like a resource loading issue... and it's because it needs to use an effect or asset that is not currently in memory. This causes the game to attempt to load that asset into memory from your hard drive. In some cases, this can be slow.

Does your game startup time take more than 1 or 2 minutes to load? What would you estimate (or time) your startup time to be from once you click the "Path of Exile" button until the time when you get to the login screen?

Do you use Steam version of PoE or the web/classic/stand-alone client?

This is correct. game takes no more than 5-10 seconds to load. Its installed on the ssd. I don't use steam for the game. I downloaded it from here instead.

perhaps you should try playing with the -ns switch added to the shortcut target. Just right-click the shortcut, select Properties, then go to the Target: line, scroll to the end, and add a space then -ns.

That will DISABLE sound in Path of Exile.. but I'm curious to see if it fixes the issue. Then we would know if it is audio processing related.

This has fixed the issue however I would like to play with sound on without any freezes.

That's not a freeze... that's a disconnection or synchronization issue.

Whenever you can move, but you cannot interact with things, and the creatures aren't moving, then you are no longer in communication with the server (for whatever reason).

Sometimes, this causes an actual disconnection, and other times it doesn't.

If you think this is what is doing it, you would need to run WinMTR while you play, and capture one of these experiences then post the results. Instructions for the WinMTR can be found linked in the Consolidated Technical sticky post.
Doesn't sound like a connection issue to me though since I do interact with the monsters. The monsters and I can damage each other. The visual side of the game just stops.
void edited info into first post.

you are correct.

The game is installed on the ssd so it takes no more than 5-10 seconds to load. I use the standalone client downloaded from here. I don't use steam.
How old is your PoE installation?

Have you run the PackCheck recently, or the GGPK Defrag application (linked in the Consolidated Technical sticky post)?
about a week ago and I tried both of those before posting neither helped. Packcheck came back clean and the ggpk defrag opened up 23mb of space.

That seems to have fixed the freezing. Loaded the game and restarted it 5 times and hit the first mob in every one with no freeze.

If its of any relevance

realtek HD audio manager

driver version 6.0.1.7245
directx version: DirectX 11.0
audio controller: HD Audio
audio codec: ALC892

I'll be AFK for about 2-3 hours after this post so if you need more information I'll have to get it later.
