Path of Exile has three attributes, around which we have placed the character classes. All six character classes have been announced.
Strength (Red): The Marauder
Strength confers raw brute power, and is represented on weapons by high base damage. Strength armor pieces grant physical damage reduction. Monsters aligned with Strength generally hit hard and take many blows to defeat. Our announced Strength character class is the Marauder.
Dexterity (Green): The Ranger
Dexterity confers agility in combat, and is represented on weapons by faster attack speeds. Dexterity armor pieces grant the ability to evade enemy blows more often. Monsters aligned with Dexterity are nimble and difficult to hit, often attacking from a distance or with multiple weapons. Our announced Dexterity character class is the Ranger.
Intelligence (Blue): The Witch
Intelligence confers knowledge – of both arcane magic and deadly combat techniques. It is represented on weapons through improved critical strikes. Intelligence armor pieces grant the wearer a mystical energy shield which protects them from blows and can recharge when they are out of combat. Monsters aligned with intelligence are often weak spell-casters who can be dangerous if not immediately dealt with. Our announced Intelligence character class is the Witch.
Strength/Dexterity: The Duelist
The Duelist is a hybrid character class that excels at both Strength and Dexterity skills.
Strength/Intelligence: The Templar
The Templar is aligned with both Strength and Intelligence.
Dexterity/Intelligence: The Shadow
The Shadow is aligned with both Dexterity and Intelligence.
Characters, monsters and items can also be aligned with multiple attributes at once. For example, a staff weapon is generally about 70% strength and 30% intelligence. It differs from a maul (which could be 100% strength) because it is better at scoring critical strikes, but doesn't hit for as much raw physical damage.
There are three playable “hybrid” character classes in Path of Exile: The Duelist, the Templar and the Shadow.
Players can use any items or skills, providing they have enough of the relevant attribute requirements. There is the flexibility to dabble in unaligned attributes in order to use off-class skills and items. However, it is generally more efficient for players to invest in the attributes appropriate to their character class.

Greetings.
At the moment my favorite is the witch, because I've always preferred the rule of the arcane arts of the physical. About the attributes I look fine and functional failure they do not see each governing the main features in a person. I personally like to see a dark knight combines strength and intelligence, but given that there already is a warrior so i wing witch I was watching the video I took of her and saw the part that is surrounded by manymonsters and life decreases very fast, so I wonder if it's layers of running a spell that temporarily increases defense or perhaps summon a creature to mediate between the Horde and the witch. Otherwise I really like what they are doing. |

Hey guys.
Escuse my spelling, it´s not my mother lenguaje. Y have a sugestion to make, about, the class in betwen the ranger and the witch, thad combine arcane with dexterty, i mean some kind of shaman, this way, it´s not a diablos like caracter like the druid or the new one tribal medic, but it still related with the force of nature, alwais the animal form skill will be great in this kind of caracter, but i can´t have somthing unique like, time or menal control and make this kind of skills thad are caracteristic in the shaman culture, if u want to make some resarch about this kind of caracter, an antropologist name Carlos Catañda make his tesis about teir form of life, thad will be very intresting. Another sugestion is an strengh and inteligence caracter, can be the Mistical Knight, like the one in final fantasy, and oter RPG, where te Knigt have the skill to empower his swords to do arcane and elemental damage. Finaly the strengh and dex caracter can be, te famos and most played caracter in all rpg, de assasine. Excuse again for my spelling, i try to do my best, to colaborate whit this forum. :) Tks bye. |

(Sometimes I wonder why it's the spelling that gets affected - online translation programs might have problems with the syntax, but the spelling?)
Personal inclination is towards intelligence with a side of dexterity - brute force is all well and good, but for elegant (and colorful!) solutions to monster infestations, it takes a certain degree of cunning and facility with magic. Backstory-wise, the witch is also presently top of the list, for me - for the ranger and marauder there's not quite (yet) the sense of what they've most likely been exiled to Wraeclast for. I envision the dexterity/intelligence hybrid as not necessarily having any connection to nature at all - but they definitely prefer ranged combat to melee, as any fight their opponents can hit back in is going to be a roll of the dice, and their odds on that roll aren't going to be as good as the ranger's. Of course, there's that caveat that their opponents have to be able to hit back. This class is probably going to have a lot of fun with crowd-control skills. |

I think that the duelist will be my first and favorite class, mostly because he looks cool and is the closest class so far to a assassin, my favorite class/job in all rpgs! :)

I will be using this character for years; so will make her a fun build; rather than the normal cookie-cutter build.
The Ranger (full dex) will have her arrows (primarily physical damage, with gem elemental damage added) stopped by solid columns. walls and structures; so i will need an AoE over the walls. Raining arrows is fine. But.. [big grin].. raining meteors over the wall; with a possible temporary AoE fire vulnerability added in for fire resistant bosses and their nearby spawns; points me to the Agility/Intelligence class that is shown blank in the Attribute character class wheel. So.. Green/Blue for me. A mouse macro assigned to one of my 9 spare mouse buttons to quick-swap the bow out and change to the meteor spell weapon and it's spell; and added to the oh so lovely game world shown in the vids; will make this game huuuge fun. From all the vids, I am over the moon happy about not having to click on a target to see the monster's info. The mouse hover system is way better; so that an archer doesn't fire off a volley at something that can squash you like a bug; and all you wanted was to see was what it was. That horrible scenario is a game breaker. Also, I will be taking a close look at the weapons. Some weapons might NOT have my skills associated with them, but that won't stop me from using them if they have a nice ability, e.g 2-Hand blunderbusses might have say a tripple multishot that doesn't use mana, and would come in handy for trash kills and multi-chest smashing. Or it is my hail-mary where I am on my last legs; everything is used up; and still have just a few last multipul monsters. I am a "grinder" person type. Love finding little things that make me smile, or make me say "Hold on, what is that?". Bye Ambu. Last edited by Ambu on July 7, 2011 7:01 AM

I would love to play as a vicious warrior, who strikes his enemies with great power. I love meele characters, duelist/ class with two weapons is too overused i think. I will play as a marauder, and my name will be BLARGHH!
Sorry for my english, Regards, Blarghh |

I'm not sure what class I want to play first.
I've never been a huge fan or pure melee characters, so I'm most likely not going to try Duelist and Marauder before the other classes. I'm really into magic users, but pure ones tend to be a little bit weak when it comes to taking a beating, so I'm not so sure about the Witch. Templar looks like a pretty good combination of both melee and magic offencive aswell as defencive, I just hope his manapool wont be so small that I'll have to chug mana potions all the time or just melee everything. Ranger looks like a fun class, and even though it's not magic based I usualy enjoy fast and agile ranged classes. For the blue/green class I'm hoping for a more magic based assassin type class, most likely it will be a ranger typ with some better magic support, seeing as there's 3 melee classes and only 2 ranged ones. So I'll probably go either Templar or the unannounced blue/green class, maybe ranger if I get dissapointed by the blue/green class. I like to try out all classes though, but probably not untill I get bored with my first choice. |
