Character Classes

Path of Exile has three attributes, around which we have placed the character classes. All six character classes have been announced.

Strength (Red): The Marauder

Strength confers raw brute power, and is represented on weapons by high base damage. Strength armor pieces grant physical damage reduction. Monsters aligned with Strength generally hit hard and take many blows to defeat. Our announced Strength character class is the Marauder.

Dexterity (Green): The Ranger

Dexterity confers agility in combat, and is represented on weapons by faster attack speeds. Dexterity armor pieces grant the ability to evade enemy blows more often. Monsters aligned with Dexterity are nimble and difficult to hit, often attacking from a distance or with multiple weapons. Our announced Dexterity character class is the Ranger.

Intelligence (Blue): The Witch

Intelligence confers knowledge – of both arcane magic and deadly combat techniques. It is represented on weapons through improved critical strikes. Intelligence armor pieces grant the wearer a mystical energy shield which protects them from blows and can recharge when they are out of combat. Monsters aligned with intelligence are often weak spell-casters who can be dangerous if not immediately dealt with. Our announced Intelligence character class is the Witch.

Strength/Dexterity: The Duelist

The Duelist is a hybrid character class that excels at both Strength and Dexterity skills.

Strength/Intelligence: The Templar

The Templar is aligned with both Strength and Intelligence.

Dexterity/Intelligence: The Shadow

The Shadow is aligned with both Dexterity and Intelligence.

Characters, monsters and items can also be aligned with multiple attributes at once. For example, a staff weapon is generally about 70% strength and 30% intelligence. It differs from a maul (which could be 100% strength) because it is better at scoring critical strikes, but doesn't hit for as much raw physical damage.

There are three playable “hybrid” character classes in Path of Exile: The Duelist, the Templar and the Shadow.

Players can use any items or skills, providing they have enough of the relevant attribute requirements. There is the flexibility to dabble in unaligned attributes in order to use off-class skills and items. However, it is generally more efficient for players to invest in the attributes appropriate to their character class.

Sixth Class Should Be a Monk!
stealth assassin, witch doctor (shaman), melee fighter (unable to use shield) that tames wild beasts, warlock (summon undead people / demons) or some kind of nature summoner that brings trees to life & make them fight for him.
...maybe ?
support class that buffs/heals and fights using summoned creatures
we will rise or fall together, mediocrity is accomplished alone

So the Sixth class must be a Hybrid out of dex and Int.

This would be the range of an Arcane Bowman. But I don't think this would be a good choice. Way too generic. A Bowman who uses Magical Arrows and spells. So let us see what possibilities there were:

Monk/Cleric: The Starter of this Thread had this in Mind. Well it sounds right at first, but a Cleric or a Monk was never the lightfooted Fighter around. Most Clerics in other games are more blunt weapon User. Monks on the other hand are more eastern Style.

Ninja: Some say he would not fit but I digress. The Ninja with possibilities in vanishing out of sight and using throwing weapons would fit. The problem is, all Classes are western styled. A Ninja would stand out like a Parrot in a flock of Ravens. Not really fitting, though.

Spy: Even the Holy Chair uses an information Network, which is hidden in Shadows. Trained in Secret Arts, the Spy are the Eyes and the poisoned Dagger of the Bishops. This would be a Nice idea. The Use of Poison and Magic to protect themselves from evil on Missions they would fit.

Druid: Well the Same problem with a Cleric. A Druid by himself is more passive than agile. There is a way to remedy this however with my Idea of the Next Class.

Cursed/Changed: In the dark are many Evils. But the darkest Creatures do not hunt their victims. They change them. Sometimes their Willpower is stronger than the Evil infused in their body. Sometimes they can fight back.
The Idea is a type of Lycanthropy to go on. A fast fighter with potential magic gained through the curse. His motivation would be simple revenge for his being. It would fit in the story and design of the game.

Artist: Whoa! Hold on! Hear me out! An Artist out of a Circus is a viable option. In the dark times were many shows with acrobats and Fire breather. Skilled in throwing weapons, evasive acrobatic skills, breathing Fire, using Flashpaper and confettibombs to blind and confuse Enemies, this would all be a great possibility.

Beastmaster: Fighting by the means of a Crossbow, Whips and throwing weapons a Beastmaster is always behind his creatures. Using magical means to control Animals and later on calling even dark beings to do his bidding he is capable of eradicating hordes of evil. Templars and alike hate his ways, but accept he is fighting for the good side... for a fee.

Technican/Alchemist: Born with no inner magical powers his intellect is unusual sharp. Being able to make explosives out of dirt from the floor and making poisonous gas or Fog out of the Liquids he always has by his side he can fight for himself. And he knows he don't need strengh, if an opponent is too dangerous, and rather a good pair of shoes!

Well just a few Ideas. Did I forget some Idea of the way? Hope it helps with the Brainstorming here. ;)
Ninja have an interesting history though their reputation is watered down by myth, fear, and propaganda. The word really just means 'the art of concealment' such as to conceal one's true intention, destination, origins and so on. So Ninjitsu is really just the art of concealment. They didn't really stealth into castles to assassinate people they were already there, a member of the staff or a guard or trusted guest. They were Ninja because they concealed the truth about themselves. The stories about them flying over walls and vanishing were made up by guards who knew they were accountable for whatever had happened on their shift. The Ninja simply played off these fairy tales and used them to their advantage.

Ninja would work well as a dex weapon wielding character with the ability to hide, blend, or even disguise themselves. The use of flash bombs or blinding magic would help them stealth in or out of an encounter. Ninja are basically stealth fighters that lean on dex weapons for distance attacks to make it easier to disengage and flee. Dex weapons and magic used for stealthy movement of concealment might fit nicely into the sixth class slot.

My thoughts on the best and most likely class:

Infiltrator/Assassin/Witchhunter Whatever they call it it'll be something themed on quick deadly strikes, stealth and arcane ability. Sort of an assassin with enough spell training to sneak up on and slay witches and other more adept magic uses. Perhaps a darker, secret sect of the inquisition for whatever 'holy' authority the Templar followed.

My thoughts on some other ideas:

Monk/Cleric No. Just no. Regular monks are not cool. They spent their lives in an abbey copying bibles by hand. They're not badass. They're not dark and gritty. There's already a Templar which is by definition a warrior monk. Templars were the monks that went to war in the name of the church, shedding the blood of innocents branded as heretics.

Bard Absolutely positively hell no! There is no place for a lute wielding, puffy sleeved, tights wearing, oh so delicate singer in any game that aims to achieve a dark and gritty cutthroat feel.

Warlock Warlocks are cool but they are by definition male witches. There is already a witch.

Summoner In a game where all classes can use any skill a summoner is a build, not a class. If you want a summoner use any class and equip a summoning skill.
PoE: More D than D3.

Still think that the monk would be a great feature to this game.A mix of str int and dex.Wich makes it a hardcore class:).And by that i mean,he has a multiple ways of playin.

Monk Ok, as said by others, and me in another thread, it is already basically a templar. They use their chi (ki, however you like to say it), and fists to powerful extent. They however are not based on dexterity.
NinjaIn my opinion, the best for the role, if using the magical/myth version (which this game pretty much is?). They are skilled in techniques that onlookers would call magical, and are dexterous, shooting poison darts, and sneaking down corridors.
Summoner/Tamer How did this come into the arguement? Witch is already here... How is it at all related to Dex when they sit back and let their minions do everything.
BardsAgain, very viable for this position, using their music as their medium for magic, and they are rogue-like. In D&D 2.0 it was actually classed as a rogue.
SpyMerely a varient on the ninja. (as the class themselves don't give any skills [so far] then it is just a matter of naming it, and letting Role-Players decide what they are on this matter.)
TechnicanEdging a bit closer to 'magic'
('technomancy'), but you can't be clumbsy and be successful at this, so it still works.
Honestly from seeing what armor they have for the dex/int champ i feel like its gonna be a warlock kinda class. Thats just my opnion, but they do get minion spells and corpse explosion by default.
I hope for a Amazon/shaman class using high movment/attack speed and energy shields and evasion together with Claws or Thrown weapons (such as magical potions grenades and daggers/spears)
