Character Classes

Path of Exile has three attributes, around which we have placed the character classes. All six character classes have been announced.

Strength (Red): The Marauder

Strength confers raw brute power, and is represented on weapons by high base damage. Strength armor pieces grant physical damage reduction. Monsters aligned with Strength generally hit hard and take many blows to defeat. Our announced Strength character class is the Marauder.

Dexterity (Green): The Ranger

Dexterity confers agility in combat, and is represented on weapons by faster attack speeds. Dexterity armor pieces grant the ability to evade enemy blows more often. Monsters aligned with Dexterity are nimble and difficult to hit, often attacking from a distance or with multiple weapons. Our announced Dexterity character class is the Ranger.

Intelligence (Blue): The Witch

Intelligence confers knowledge – of both arcane magic and deadly combat techniques. It is represented on weapons through improved critical strikes. Intelligence armor pieces grant the wearer a mystical energy shield which protects them from blows and can recharge when they are out of combat. Monsters aligned with intelligence are often weak spell-casters who can be dangerous if not immediately dealt with. Our announced Intelligence character class is the Witch.

Strength/Dexterity: The Duelist

The Duelist is a hybrid character class that excels at both Strength and Dexterity skills.

Strength/Intelligence: The Templar

The Templar is aligned with both Strength and Intelligence.

Dexterity/Intelligence: The Shadow

The Shadow is aligned with both Dexterity and Intelligence.

Characters, monsters and items can also be aligned with multiple attributes at once. For example, a staff weapon is generally about 70% strength and 30% intelligence. It differs from a maul (which could be 100% strength) because it is better at scoring critical strikes, but doesn't hit for as much raw physical damage.

There are three playable “hybrid” character classes in Path of Exile: The Duelist, the Templar and the Shadow.

Players can use any items or skills, providing they have enough of the relevant attribute requirements. There is the flexibility to dabble in unaligned attributes in order to use off-class skills and items. However, it is generally more efficient for players to invest in the attributes appropriate to their character class.

How come no one likes the templar?
maybe the young players dont wanna play a old character. You should be able to customize.
GIVE ME BETAAH!
Templar seems under powered to me...got mine to 34 now and seen some other classes in action and the templar is a slow killer. Seems like a good support/team character though.
My brother has tested out the Templar and he is a decent class but it is just not developed enough in the beta he finds. Maybe with the upcoming release of the new patch the attribute changes will make him a force to be reckon with.
Seems like it would be a great class if you can find the right armor & weapons. I've always played a battlemage whenever possible and I find that not all games allow for it. I'm hoping they improve on this though, I'd love to try out the Templar. It's a tough choice between the Templar and the not yet announced dexterity/intelligence class which is also really interesting..
He's just too old..he looks like a sick baby bird..

Just kidin I cant wait to explore this class..
I agree, not enough people play support. I'm going Templar.
I have also been thinking about going Templar.. (If i get a key..)

But what class is the best suvivor class?? And best Dps?

The Templar sounds like its a slow dps??
I'm currently playing a DW templar, and it is a blast, its a nice trade off on mana powers where a straight STR based might be more dependent on flasks. Its definitely a good choice for non-stop grinding.
I have played a certain kind of Templar spec (that i wont reveal, im not sure how much i can say :P), and let me just tell you, it is a blast!

I may not hit the fastest, nor am i the most accurate, but when i hit, my god do the mobs go down :P
Also, because of the toughness of the templar you can take quite a few hits aswell!
And if that dosent help, bring out the arsenal of spells ;)

Feels like i can pretty much do it all, and fairly sucessfully. Hit like a truck, tank like an old man with a granite beard and rain magicy doom as you please :P
I get an key last weekend. My choise was templar, know nothing from it. First 2-3 levels i had no idea what i should do. Skills and gameplay was strange, but the itemhunt get me and i moved on...

Now, iam a 33 level templer. I find a way, iam a mixture of a wizard with a better armor and shield, like a paladin in D2. Mainweapon is firestorm, very mana intensiv. In skilltree i have choosen many +ints, many +fire dmg. So far, i run good with it, seems like a Hammerdin. I collect the mobs and than many firestorms. Bosses are sometimes a little harder, thorns? not so easy. Levling goes fast in my opinion.

Problem, like all chars, it need good equipment with high armor and much blockchance. Since level 30 i have tempest shield skill gem, nice thing, brutus hit me only 3 or 4 times in fight.

Realy, play this style, i like very much and iam happy with this hybrid. But, iam only 33, will see how it goeing on...
