Path of Exile has three attributes, around which we have placed the character classes. All six character classes have been announced.
Strength (Red): The Marauder
Strength confers raw brute power, and is represented on weapons by high base damage. Strength armor pieces grant physical damage reduction. Monsters aligned with Strength generally hit hard and take many blows to defeat. Our announced Strength character class is the Marauder.
Dexterity (Green): The Ranger
Dexterity confers agility in combat, and is represented on weapons by faster attack speeds. Dexterity armor pieces grant the ability to evade enemy blows more often. Monsters aligned with Dexterity are nimble and difficult to hit, often attacking from a distance or with multiple weapons. Our announced Dexterity character class is the Ranger.
Intelligence (Blue): The Witch
Intelligence confers knowledge – of both arcane magic and deadly combat techniques. It is represented on weapons through improved critical strikes. Intelligence armor pieces grant the wearer a mystical energy shield which protects them from blows and can recharge when they are out of combat. Monsters aligned with intelligence are often weak spell-casters who can be dangerous if not immediately dealt with. Our announced Intelligence character class is the Witch.
Strength/Dexterity: The Duelist
The Duelist is a hybrid character class that excels at both Strength and Dexterity skills.
Strength/Intelligence: The Templar
The Templar is aligned with both Strength and Intelligence.
Dexterity/Intelligence: The Shadow
The Shadow is aligned with both Dexterity and Intelligence.
Characters, monsters and items can also be aligned with multiple attributes at once. For example, a staff weapon is generally about 70% strength and 30% intelligence. It differs from a maul (which could be 100% strength) because it is better at scoring critical strikes, but doesn't hit for as much raw physical damage.
There are three playable “hybrid” character classes in Path of Exile: The Duelist, the Templar and the Shadow.
Players can use any items or skills, providing they have enough of the relevant attribute requirements. There is the flexibility to dabble in unaligned attributes in order to use off-class skills and items. However, it is generally more efficient for players to invest in the attributes appropriate to their character class.

I'm in agreement that the sixth class will likely be an assassin-type. I also believe the character will be female to balance against the three males already announced.
The name is up for debate of course. Assassin? Possible, but unlikely due to the negative connotation associated with it. Rogue would likely work, since the name has been used and overused to the point of being a staple in the majority of RPGs. |

I would like to see a non-human class. Perhaps an Imp? How you play it could make it assassin\thief or even trickster. It would be on the dark magic side and makes sense for int\dex. Plus avoids icky gender issue.
By the looks of it the game could use more summon magic period... but it should be open to the mage type (in the spirit of the games ability to customize your character). Likewise with beast taming - good idea, but why limit. Ninja will always be a huge disappointment OR completely broken. Don't try to walk on sacred ground... you might as well make some sort of steam-punk pirate type. The option I like after reading posts is the Monk though. Lots of goodness there. |

Based on the INT/DEX items it's going to be something in the vein of Monk/Assassin from D2.
All the INT/DEX items are claws/gloves/etc. so it will be a melee style character as opposed to an arcane archer. Of course the character class name is all flavor. As there are no class specific skills we already have all the game mechanic relevant information about the character. It uses both INT and DEX to equal effect. |

Well a range type would make most sense do to the fact we already have 3 melee but one 2 range class, so a mix of str and magic gave templar one, I could see dex and magic would be a trikster / hypnotist, but never know to they have released it.
Ghost squid, enough said.

What about a Druid ? In most of the RPG I've played they kind of use both Int/Dex,
Wondering which kind of gameplay though, looks like a melee character is missing. |

|
I'm hoping it'll be some kind of cleric/healer type character. Being on the opposite end of strength, they'd need high maneuverability to make up for their lack of physique to avoid attacks. Fits the mold well enough.

I envision the 6th character being something dark and a little unique.
Possibly a blend of both an Assassin and Necromancer in play-style -- a cloaked figure that uses it's magical powers to manifest ghostly spirits from the Nether-world! A "GhostMage" *smiles* now that would be cool!! |
|
|
Summoner or conjurer (from Nox) I think?
We still have lack of this kind of class so far. Summon some creatures to fight for us, it always cool in ARPG. |

|
Ahhh...I see that a ton of new Curse skills have been added with the latest beta patch install.
We just might see that new GhostMage character yet! |

|
So long as it isn't an obligatory *cutesy* character I don't mind.
Something a bit different I hope. A ghostly highwayman with pistols and whips... ....or a Torturer along the lines of 'Shadow of the Torturer' by Gene Wolfe. |
